On 16 July 2021, the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy announced that according to U.S government estimates, in Colombia in 2020, coca cultivation and cocaine production numbers reached a record 245,000 hectares and 1,010 metric tons, respectively. Critics attribute the increase in coca cultivation, first reported in 2016, to Bogota’s peace deal with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
