Case StudyM.P. is a 44-year-old married male city sanitation worker, admitted to University Medical Center today for “bypass surgery tomorrow to fix my aorta and these black toes” M.P. has an extensive related history – Including 6 years prior to admission (PTA) he was involved in a motorcycle accident with handlebars jammed into groin. Treated and released at a local hospital. No apparent injury however now the attending physician thinks this may be a precipitating factor in the present aortic stenosis.1 year PTA M.P. complained of radiating pain in right calf when ambulating 1 mile, the pain was relieved when he stopped ambulating. 3 months PTA M.P. states that he has been unable to maintain an erection during intercourse. 1 month PTA M.P. states that his leg pain pain occurred after walking two blocks, he had numbness and tingling in his right foot and calf. States that the tips of three toes on his right foot looked black. States he saw MD and had diagnostic tests that revealed aortic stenosis “below vessels that go to my kidneys.” What are more subjective data components that could be asked of M.P.? (Provide three components each subjective area involving the present, past history, and his personal habits) Why are the present data components you mention important to M.P’s care or what is the rationale for the present data components? What is the rationale for why M.P.’s pain was relieved after he stopped ambulating? Where is the gastrocnemius muscle located? What diagnostic labs/tests would you anticipate the health care provider ordering?
