After reading chapter 7 and listening and/or watching the class presentation, respond to the discussion questions. Respond to one post with thoughtful feedback.  Your feedback needs to be more than “I like, I don’t like, That’s cool”. Be specific with your feedback. Not responding to a post or not addressing the questions will result in points deducted.

What functions do deviant behaviors serve in society? (Think about the sociological perspectives). Next, define and describe deviance from one of the  theoretical perspectives.
How is crime associated with deviance?

Reply:
Deviance is something negatively perceived as “outside the norm” deemed by a group. The deviance can come from a certain behavior, trait, or belief. However, it can be seen as a positive boundary that’s agreed upon by a group as described in the theoretical perspective, functionalism. This is because it’s, again, seen as an agreed upon boundary. Murder is the best example of this. It is agreed upon in most societies and groups that murder is wrong. A type of deviant behavior that counters the belief of “killing another human is wrong”.
Crime,
like in my example concerning murder, is the legal boundaries society
has agreed upon what is wrong in said society. Obviously, this doesn’t
just apply to murder and more to the general sense of avoiding the
exploitation and distress that commuting a crime can cause other people

in the society. Due to laws being there to maintain the general peace
and safety of the public, to violate it be commuting a crime is why it’s
associated with deviance. To disrupt the general peace and safety is
the deviance that the crime causes.
