There are many factors that contribute towards one’s personal values and views toward nature. Based on the information from this lesson, write one to two paragraphs identifying the factors important to your own views on nature and natural landscapes.

Overview
Readings and videos will introduce you to the initial view of nature held by the early American settlers and how that viewed changed with time; moving from an early view based on Old World cultures to the changing views of nature in the New World. These learning materials will identify several factors leading to the changing view of nature from antipathy to appreciation. Some of the factors that influenced this change included landscape paintings of the New World, writings by romantics, and the need for self-identity as a country – nationalism.
Time Estimate
We expect these will take 10-12 hours to complete. All of the following are required for this week.
