It is estimated that 2000 people are injured by shooting every day. 44% of global homicides involve gun violence. Between 2012 and 2016, 1.4 million people died of firearms-related diseases worldwide. In 2017, nearly 134000 people were shot and injured. Around us, there will be shootings in the school. Gunshot wounds often change lives and have an indelible impact on the long-term physical and mental health of victims. Some people need lifelong care, while others lose their ability to work, especially in jobs with high physical requirements. Gun violence can harm people’s right to health. People living in communities with high levels of gun violence will find it difficult or dangerous to access local health care facilities. The separation of residential areas by armed criminal groups may hinder people’s access, and frequent official or de facto curfews related to police intervention may close medical services. States should recognize that firearms violence threatens the human rights of people, in particular the right to life, personal integrity, and safety and health.Lydia PremanEven those these various laws were enacted in 2020, I had not heard of many of them before reading this article. Many of these laws made a lot of sense but laws like middle schoolers requiring booster seats seem a little extreme. It is very interesting how many laws don’t even effect my everyday life but can largely effect another groups life. I thought that the law of cyclists in Oregon being able to treat stop signs as yield could be very dangerous and in my opinion doesn’t at all seem necessary.  Many of these laws are great and are the natural progression of the direction we should be headed. I was especially glad to hear about the law that extends the statute of limitations of sexual abuse in California as this will allow for many victims to have a larger chance at Justice.
