Please reply to the following post:Post 1The career/vocational/employment setting is where community counselors help individuals reintegrate into their community work environment. Many studies look upon the correlation between mental health and poverty, and many conclude that both interact. Poverty can be a cause or the result of poor mental health in an individual. This is why counselors need to help individuals with their career setting and understand the specific stressors affecting them. The career/ vocational/employment setting can be affected by many factors; some might have to do with the client’s behavior, but environmental factors can also affect it. It is important for counselors to assess those environmental factors and remind the client that they have no fault and to not self-blame. Counselors use positive career development that focuses on their strengths and interests and helps them look for resources that will expand on it. The primary mission for the counselor is to successfully integrate the client into a workforce that is compatible with their skills and interest. The counseling process focuses on the person’s human development and community development; both are needed for the client’s success. Discuss how the community counseling model would function in that settingThe community counseling model functions in these settings by working on both the humans and community development of the individual. When it comes to human development counselors, work on defining the individual’s career goals. These goals are defined in one-on-one therapy, where the counselors evaluate the client’s interests, abilities, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. The community counseling also works with structured workshops to help the client develop skills needed for their careers. Career setting issues can also be affected by environmental factors, and it is up to the counselor to advocate for their clients. Things like employment discrimination or unfair occupational practices are where community development is essential. It is up to the counselor to let the community know where they lack in the occupational world and who they are negatively affecting. Community counselors give voice to those who are unfairly treated and help open opportunities for their clients. Post 2No matter the nature of the setting of the community counseling the role of the counselor is the same; to help/assist individuals to develop their maximum potential and well-being and at the same time addressing obstacles in the environment impeding the achievement of these goals. One of those different community counseling setting is career/vocational/employment settings. The main goal of helpers here is to assist individuals having issues in the education and employment areas. People confronting situations of unemployment are aid to find not just a new job, but to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to perform accordingly to their workplace’s positions.Clients may be assisted with assessing their aptitudes, interests, abilities, goals, capacities and connect them with the right workplace, those stimulating their greatest potential. Simultaneously, counselors should advocates for the elimination of barriers, discrimination, recruiting practices, lack of security in the job places at company levels, as well as systemic level, like advocating for change in laws.Remediation of surging issues and problems is one avenue, prevention of them is also part of the role of counselors in community settings, prevention programs like preparing individuals for change in the labor market and the economy is needed too, and increasing public awareness about its effects. The community counseling model can be as broad as to help all the diversity of the population in a geographic area in these issues or very specialize in for example specific groups like youth, or hispanic, or women. In these late examples the counselor experience facing the particular problems affecting the particular group made them experts on the issues and on the possible solutions at both levels, individual and environmental. Targeting major problems require the effort and collaboration of many entities in the community for this reason counselors must maintain close ties with other agencies in order to help clients contact the most appropriate agencies and facilities for their needs.Post 3Community needs are barriers preventing the well-being of people in the community. In a positive way, one can define community needs as those challenges that must be addressed and overcome when human and material resources are pooled. Needs assessment tools are paramount for recognizing the priorities community counselors must target as their objectives in community programs. They provide counselors with valuable information that can be used to (a) select and prioritize problems and target populations, (b) identify and implement specific programs, and (c) evaluate the impact of these programs on the community. It is known because fiscal deficits, private or public entities are looking to reduce their spending, mental health services do not escape to this reality and reduction of funding is truth. Thus, community counselors have to be aware of directing the resources available to those areas in more need and that can be benefit the most in using monetary resources. Prioritizing is key to succeed in this matter.Approaches or assessment tools frequently used to performance community needs assessments include the following:1- Surveys.2- Community meetings and/or focus groups.3- Social indicators.4- Surveys of local agencies.5- Interviews with key informants.Social indicators: I have used this tool for my grant proposal. For example statistic about the incidence of vaping/e-cigarettes in high school students from the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has provided me with the quantitative information of why the prevention of vaping in youths is a community need. Further, these indicators allow counselors to present the Statement of Need to possibles founding sources. Interviews with key informants: This allows counselors to get information about real communities issues from individuals and institutions witnessing the problems directly. In our last example; school administrators and teachers are good sources of information about the vaping in high schools, they have abundant number of students episodes relate to vaping.Surveys: To finish with the same example of vaping, we can send self-questionnaires to high school students making them questions about their use of electronic cigarettes. Analyze the data, compare the results with the other two assessment tools mention before and decide if the prevention of vaping is needed.Post 4Counselors that move beyond the traditional counseling role and use a community counseling framework represent a multifaceted approach to professional helping. As counselors our overall goal is to assist the largest number of people in the most efficient and cost-effective way. Many times, counselors need to develop programs to address the needs of a community. These programs must be based on careful assessment of the community’s needs. Some of the most used tools a community counselor might consider to undertake a needs assessment are surveys, community meetings and/or focus groups, social indicators, surveys of local agencies and interviews with key informants. To effectively conduct a comprehensive needs assessment we can use any or a combination of these tools. A combinations approach would be more comprehensive to measure different factors. The following are three of the tools that I would use to assess the need for a new program:Surveys: This tool is used with all the members, a target population, or a sample of the members in a community. With this tool people are asked about information related to their characteristics or needs through mailed questionnaires, interviews or by telephone. The information gathered can be used to gain support for new programs, to evaluate existing programs, and to update data from previous needs assessments. I would use this tool for a new program to identify needs and strategies that may not been identify through other means, and to lobby support for it.Community meetings and/or focus groups: These groups are formal public hearings or informal discussion groups that serve two purposes. They reveal local priorities, and they provide a mean where the community members can have direct input and feel more involved in the development of the program. I think this is a particularly important tool that I would use for a new program in order to understand more profoundly the needs of the community from insiders, select and prioritize problems and target populations and get the community more involved with something that may benefit them.Interviews with key informants: Key informants might provide important information concerning unmet community needs. I would use this tool to implement ideas and identify priorities on which to base the new program’s objectives and evaluate the impact of the program on the community.
