The act essentially entitles eligible employees of covered employers to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons.The Need for TeamworkThe act allows 12 work weeks of leave in a 12-month period. Job responsibilities and duties of an employee taking leave under provisions of the FMLA remain, and must be absorbed by others.
