Activity 4: Minority of the Mentally Ill (100 points)
Each of your Activity responses should be both grammatically and mechanically correct, and formatted in the same fashion as the Activity itself. If there is a Part A, your response should identify a Part A, etc. In addition, you must appropriately cite all resources used in your response and document in a bibliography using APA style. Note your assigned grade will be based on the overall quality of your paper, content, structure, correct use of English, correct use of APA format, and lack of grammar or spelling errors. After reading the assigned readings and relevant chapters in your textbook, please prepare the following:
1.Outline the ways in which mental/behavioral illnesses, substance abuse/addiction, and deinstitutionalization are related to minority groups in corrections. Cite examples.
2.Prepare an argument in support of, or against, institutionalizing or deinstitutionalizing the mentally ill and those who suffer with substance abuse/addiction. Cite examples and scholarly research.
3.Include in your argument a discussion of whether drug courts appear to be a viable alternative in terms of success rates and cost effectiveness. Students conduct an individual cases (HBSP) which involves analysis of the case and market data.  The analysis requires preparing a brief summary of the issue(s) as well as clear analysis and a STRATEGIC (value Delivery focused) recommendation.  This discussion should:

Specifically state the Value Delivery Network Problem (not the symptoms); this discussion may indicate a hierarchy of challenges but concludes with a clear statement of the problem to be addressed. This is not a recap of the content of the case; it’s a statement of the problem. 
Present the results of ANALYSIS as key insights (these can be from the case, readings, research).  Essentially, this is a summary of critical factors and forces which must be considered and assesses the opportunities and threats posed by these forces.  Note, the case may include data which should be analyzed by students prior to group discussion. This is a chance for students to apply tools/techniques/perspectives from readings to analysis. Remember, these are cases chosen for Value Delivery Networks course – look for the insights which can be developed.
Makes a clear statement of a response to the problem; outlines the direction to pivot the organization and considers tactical implications (resources, time, responsibilities, and contingencies).
Concludes with a statement of expected outcome.  A one paragraph statement which essentially states: Based on our insights (developed in “B”) to address (problem stated in “A”) we must do “C” to achieve “D”.

Lisa Anderson is a 74-year-old female with a history of osteoporosis. She is a widow and lives alone in a two-story home. Mrs. Anderson is retired and depends on her Social Security income. She takes pride in making all her own food from scratch. While she is walking at the hospital today, Mrs. Anderson falls and fractures her left hip. She is transported to the OR for immediate surgery. Patient falls are a serious problem in hospitals, resulting in substantial morbidity, mortality, increased length of stay, and higher costs. It is estimated that high hospitalization rates in healthcare organizations result from patient falls. Fall rates in acute-care hospitals have been measured between 2.2 and 7 falls per 1,000 admissions. Injuries occur in approximately 30% of falls, and severe injuries occur in 4% to 6% of falls. Patient falls increase the cost of patient care. It was found that patients who fell and were injured as a result of a fall had $4,233 higher charges and a length of stay (LOS) of 12.3 days. Provide an example of something in your current facility that is increasing the cost of care in your organization. How is it being controlled, or how could it be controlled? Make sure to provide some ideas of what could be done better to improve care and outcomes. I’m trying to study for my Criminal Justice course and I need some help to understand this question.

Assume you are a detective assigned to the Sam Sheppard case. Develop and submit at least 12 interrogation questions based on the case. Use your assigned readings to gather information on the case.
Target one suspect (the person they believe committed the murder of Marilyn Sheppard) with the 12 pertinent questions.
The list of questions will be graded on how well they fit the nondirective interview style, their pertinence to the available evidence, and their focus on the interviewee’s actions and motives.
The first two questions may be general information-gathering (rapport) questions, but they must progressively move toward the development of specific facts based on your theory of the crime and fit the profile of the questions described in Lecture 5.
Explain the importance of completeness and accuracy in the incident report and officers witness statements written by the initial responding officers. How will the contents of these reports be used as the basis of a request for a search warrant?
