To fight against the spread of the HIV epidemic, we must eliminate the violence against women in this region. Biologically, women are more vulnerable to infection and forced sex, resulting in tears and deep cuts.Survivors of gender-based violence are of high risk and must-have resources to seek HIV prevention and treatment. According to UNAIDS, women who experience violence are three times more likely to be infected with HIV than those who have not experienced violence. When survivors are connected with support services, there can be improved mental health outcomes in turn. Prevention strategies used when working to fight against the spread of this epidemic must focus on the unequal power between men and women and practices that put women at high risk. Most intervention strategies focus on traditional methods such as condom use, antiretroviral drugs, and treatments. The acceptance of masculine behaviors over women promotes power inequality. However, long-term prevention needs to address underlying social issues and change in gender-related behaviors.
