Hr Sol sounds like an excellent nonprofit
that is providing a valuable service improving people’s lives. Hunger is a
horrible problem and those that are poor and starving often end up eating meals
that are not nutritious, due to either lack of funds, lack of info, or both.
I’m glad to see Hunger Solutions helping the people of New York! I agree with
you that operating a golf course is definitely Unrelated to their mission! It
is still supporting their goals, so it is valuable, but certainly subject to
UBIT. The question I have is you stated that Hunger Solutions NY is paying 37%
tax on the golf course income. It is my understanding that UBIT rate is
currently the same as the corporate rate of 21%. Form 990-T lists the 21% rate
on line 1 of Part II of the Form. Why is the golf course paying 37% instead?
Perhaps this was prior to the rate change? Reference: 2020 Form 990-T,
