I don’t understand this Business question and need help to study.
Machiavelli may be best known for his unscrupulous advice on leadership and power, but consider the ways in which his perspective on change speaks to a common-sense and timeless reality. Change is a constant fact of life, and yet it is rarely viewed as easy. But also consider the advances in change strategy in the nearly 500 years since Machiavelli penned those words. How do modern organizations work to reduce the “perilousness†of the change process and to increase the certainty of success? Addressing those questions will be a focus of the Discussion this week.
As this week’s chapters in the course text emphasize, organizations must be receptive to change in today’s competitive business environment. However, because change poses challenges—particularly when employees have to adapt quickly—managers must carefully weigh possible outcomes and ensure processes are in place to mitigate risk before implementing significant changes. In this Discussion, you will conduct research to identify an example of organizational change to analyze for process and outcomes, or you can draw on personal experience with organizational change to analyze for process and outcomes.
To prepare:
Based on your personal work experience, select the appropriate option for preparing your Discussion response:
Option A: Analyze a change strategy of an organization that has recently embarked on or completed an organizational change.
Conduct an Internet search to identify a current article on an organization that has recently embarked on or completed an organizational change. Analyze the organization’s change strategy for evidence of application of Lewin’s change model (Kinicki, 2021, pp. 332–333) or Kotter’s eight steps for leading organizational change (p. 335). Based on your understanding, how would the process of change influence the intended or actual outcome, as well as any additional outcomes?
Option B: Analyze an organizational change strategy you have been actively part of during your career.
Recall details of the initiative. Consider whether you can identify any of the stages of Lewin’s change model (Kinicki, 2021, pp. 332–333) or Kotter’s eight steps for leading organizational change (p. 335). How did the process of change influence the primary organizational outcome in terms of success or failure? Were there any additional, or secondary, outcomes?
