Ten Principles of Economics Select two of the ten principles of economics and show how they apply in your life. Please remember your post should include at least 250 words. Also, please remember to respond to at least two of your peers. Tony : The two principles that apply more to my life are:Principle 2: The Cost of Something Is What You Give Up to Get itI made the decision to join the United States Army right after high school. While a good number of my classmates were figuring out what college they wanted attend, I decided I wanted to wait on college and focus more on a path to how to achieve my dream job. That dream job was a police officer. I knew that most departments only required a high school diploma to join. I felt that joining the military would make my resume look great, and that it would have educational benefits such as paying for college later on in life. I felt this was best as I did not want to be stuck with any student loans and to have a decent paying job at the same time. This path actually paid off and worked for me. I did end up getting to do my dream job with a good salary. When it was time to go attend college, the VA paid and still paying for it. I felt that going to college straight after high school wasn’t worth it as I knew my career path at the time. If I wanted to do something different like be a doctor, I would most likely attend college right after as the career requires a degree.Principle 4: People Respond to IncentivesThis principle should apply to 99.9% of people. Everyone responds to incentives! It’s human nature for us to love rewards. Most of us want to be the best in the class, workplace, sibling, etc. I love incentives as it feels great to be rewarded/recognized. During my time as a police officer, I loved looking for drunk drivers. The reward knowing you are saving lives is priceless. It’s one of those things where you’ll never know exactly how many lives were saved because the person was removed off the streets before they could do any harm. I worked hard at it to where I currently hold the record of most DWI arrest at my department as well as being rewarded/recognized by the State of Texas, the city, and organizations like MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). I also enjoy incentives from other things as well such as buying groceries from Krogers. I love earning the fuel points and eventually saving .30 cents per gallon when it’s time to fill up.Mia:Two of the Ten Principles of Economics that apply in my life currently are: People Respond to Incentives and Trade Can Make Everyone Better Off.People Respond to Incentives: Is when something induces a person to act in a certain way to receive a punishment or reward. Obviously, most people would want an award. I do this every day. I run 3 miles everyday and my reward is my skinny figure. I study hard in school to be able to pass my classes and graduate in a timely manner. This principle is a motivation get people to do something (the reward) or not to do something (the punishment).Trade Can Make Everyone Better Off: Is when people gain from their ability to trade with one another. I started out trading when I was young! I mean, it was not serious stuff just my Barbie dolls. Each time I would get a new one, me and a neighbor would trade with each other based on our likings at the time. At the end of the day, we did not lose anything. I do this still today. My mom and I do this with purses. We buy the purse when it is cheap and once it goes up in value we trade it in, get some money out of it and grab onto a new purse that is more trendy at the time. Either way, we never lose! Both of these can work economically and socially. For this discussion, this is how those principles affect my daily life.
