As more convenient technology emerges our methods for obtaining information and entertainment through the medium of television becomes more and more personalized. Each of us can develop our own “watching style” and modify it to meet our needs. As a result of this, advertisers try to become much more flexible and smart in their attempts to sway our tastes and make us aware of their products.Assignment (2 parts):1. Describe your personal viewing “style” at the present, then compare your more immediate style with the way you watched television when you were younger. Describe how changes in technology have affected your access to television throughout your life. Think of one positive aspect to this advancement and one negative. Use examples to illustrate your choices. Comment on the article on TV antennas vs. digital.2. Watch a television show (any type will work, but choose from the list of shows on the syllabus, that I prefer you analyze for the class assignments). Find two specific (brand name) examples in the show of product placement. This is the technique of having a product appear in the context of the show rather than using a commercial to demonstrate and advertise that product. Please do this while watching a show specifically for this assignment rather than relying on your memory. Be sure to tell me the names of the shows (and the episodes, if possible). I repeat here what I said on your syllabus about these bi-weekly responses: To earn 20 points your response must be on time and show evidence of critical thinking in your answer. The use of specific examples to support your ideas is required. I care about clearly written responses–don’t just text or be sloppy in your response writing. Basic punctuation and complete sentences are essential, and clearly written, well-thought out responses will help you get full points. You can be concise and to the point, but don’t be incomplete or vague–you must fully answer all the questions in the assignment for full points.
