Read Krikor Zohrab’s short story “Armenissa” (Reader, pp. 93-100) and answer one of the following questions in about half a page. The goal of the exercise is to hone in on the work’s political significance, which can be gleaned by reading between the lines and informed inference from the data the author supplies. The short story  is attached bellow
1) Outline the diversity of ambience in Constantinopolitan society presented in this work. In particular, what emerges regarding the relative social status of the three minority Ottoman administrative millets (confessional communities) referred to, i.e. Greek, Armenian, and Catholic.
2)The protagonist Marie emerges not only as a “femme fatale” but as a powerful self-made woman significantly in advance of her time. In what primary ways does she subvert the gender norms of her time (socially, familially, religiously, politically)?
