1. What was the result of your “Find My Specialty “?  and the  Nursing Personality ?       Does the result align with your personality and career aspirations?
My specialty was emergency room nurse. I figured before the result was posted that it would be an ER nurse. It actually is an area I am interested in along with pediatrics. Beginning nursing school I wasn’t interested in ED due to the fact that I have been exposed to a similar style of patient care via pre-hospital acute care. After doing rotations on various floors I soon realized that I would not be a fit on any of the med Surg, IMCU, stroke, rehab floors. During my ED rotation, it was all familiar to me and I was comfortable in helping with all the patients we cared for that day.
My personality result was humanitarian. I’d say it is pretty accurate. I have spent close to two decades caring for people, participating in clinical research studies to help make advancements in the medical field, and have been an instructor for paramedic students.

Do your personality and interest match the chosen specialty according to the ?

Yes, they both matched, not sure what the other options were but the two fit me and my style. I am interested in a fast-paced work atmosphere that is constantly changing and challenging. I also seek to help people and provide the best care possible. Lastly, I want those around me to learn something from me, and I want to learn something from them. We should seek to learn something new every day even if we have been in the field for 5,10,20 years. You’re never too old to learn, and you never know everything.

What interesting facts were revealed about the chosen specialty and your self-assessment?

I didn’t see anything in particular that stood out. For ED you go with the flow, comfortable being on your feet for a full fast-paced shift. Which is pretty accurate. Adaptable and love that no two days are alike, also accurate. Thrive in organized chaos and always up for the challenge of being pulled in several directions. Pretty much sums me up, in my current profession and the new one I am seeking out.
2. After completing the “Find My Specialty Quiz”, I got fitted for Cardiac Nursing because “I am a perfect balance between being hyper-organized and comfortable with chaos”. I would say these characteristics do match with how I am, but I would have never guessed Cardiac Nursing, which is something I would consider looking into. After completing the “Nursing Personality Quiz”, it said I have a Trail-Blazer personality. I have never heard of this type of personality, so to elaborate, this means that I have qualities of being an “excellent leader”, valued for giving “clear advice”, and “often take roles as an organizer”. Additionally, I “lead by example, exemplifying hard work, dedication, and reliability”. I would say the really provided accurate results, as I am a no-bull kind of person who likes to get things done in a timely fashion and I’m always prepared. As I enter the nursing world, at first, I definitely won’t be the leader. I will be a very good listener and observer so that I can eventually play the role of leading my peers and being one that those can come to for advice.
After reading one of the articles posted about how to choose a nursing specialty, I matched with the high dominance category on the DiSC assessment, which makes sense after taking the other quizzes, and that I am drawn to the emergency department, intensive care, and operating room specialties. Then, after taking the GMercyU on choosing a nursing career, I was matched with travel nursing. I have always said from the beginning of my nursing school journey back in 2019 that I wanted to do travel nursing after choosing a specialty, so this result did not surprise me. However, what did surprise me was after going through our OB rotation, I realized that I definitely have a soft spot for NICU nursing. I currently do not have children or have the desire to have them in the future, so I was definitely taken aback by this realization.
