RESPOND TO THIS POST USING 300 WORDS AND A REFERENCE For this discussion post, the organization that I chose to research was The Joint Commission. According to jointcomission.org, The Joint Commission is ” the recognized global leader for health care accreditation.” The Joint Commission provides resources to healthcare providers and facilities prior to, during, and following accreditation. The article that I found for this organization is entitled Hospital performance trends on national quality measures and the association with joint commission accreditation, and it can be found within the Wiley Online Library. This article assesses comparisons made between the accreditation status of The Joint Commission. According to the “Results” subsection of the article, ” Hospitals accredited by The Joint Commission tended to have better baseline performance in 2004 than non-accredited hospitals.” The Joint Commission serves other purposes alongside accreditation. According to the text for this course, ” The Joint Commission developed an official ” Do Not Use ” list of abbreviations as part of its information management standards that healthcare organizations must follow.” ( Exploring Electronic Health Records, p. 49 ). These abbreviations also include a list of terms that may potentially be added to the official ” Do Not Use ” list. However, this list will be finalized according to the discretion of The Joint Commission. In addition, also according to the text for this course, The Joint Commission can also be defined as ” an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits and certifies a variety of healthcare organizations, ranging from dental to behavioral health to acute care facilities. ” ( Exploring Electronic Health Records, p. 51 ).
