Special education teachers require an in-depth understanding of how to adapt curriculum, assessment, and learning experiences for exceptional learners. Matching adaptations, accommodations, or modifications to a student’s needs is very important to ensure learning and growth. For this assignment, you will practice the skill of adapting a lesson to meet the needs of exceptional learners.

Use one of your own lesson plans or locate a lesson plan on the internet. Although you may use any site that has complete lesson plans, some suggested sites are:

Modify the lesson plan to incorporate the needs of 2 K–12 students with the following exceptionalities:
Seizure disorder
Hearing impairment
Address the following elements in your adaptations to meet the needs of these learners: 
Instructional approach: Describe the instructional approach for each exceptionality, and provide an explanation for why you chose it. Use task and situation analysis for at least 1 of the instructional strategies.
Content: Select a lesson plan that includes information that is accurate and relevant to the students’ needs. Adjust the format of the lesson plan to outline how it will prepare students for learning and how it will develop, reinforce, and evaluate the objectives and goals of the lesson. Develop and provide all the necessary materials for the lesson plan.
Differentiated instruction: Incorporate strategies for differentiated instruction for the students within the lesson.
Adaptation: Incorporate at least 2 specific strategies, accommodations, and modifications that would be appropriate for students with each exceptionality, including physical environment adaptations.
Assessment: Include formative and summative assessments that will be used throughout the lesson to determine if the students are understanding the content.
Reflection: At the end of your lesson, include a brief reflection of no more than 350 words on the process of modifying your lesson and the pros and cons of the modification of your lesson.
