Technical Parameters: Typed, double-spaced, hard copy. 500-1000 words. Semi-formal style. Must have Introduction/body/conclusion, well developed observations connected to class content and show evidence of careful preparation and editing. Introduction should include who/what/where/when. May be written in first person. What do you think August Wilson saw as the purpose of this play? What was he exploring? How did the production choices (set/Lights/Costumes/etc.) work to help tell this story? How did the acting choices work to tell the story? Where do you see the influence of the “4 Bs†in this performance? What moments worked especially well for you? You’ll want to be very specific in describing what you see/hear, as well as how you feel these choices help or hinder the telling of the story. In other words, connect the production and acting choices to your experience as an audience member. Favourite moments and least favourite are always welcome. Bonus for tying your observations in to outside research about August Wilson. The above is meant as a prompt to get you thinking. Your own observations-especially any tying in the work we’ve been doing in class, or the readings you’ve been discussing, are welcome. You do not need to address each of the above questions, but you should be able to make connections to the work we’ve been exploring in class. Do be sure to have an introductory paragraph that notes the specific of the production-what it was, who it was by, where the theatre was, when you saw it, etc. Feel free to submit a “pre grade†attempt by Friday 11 AM to get a sense of whether you’re on track.
