Title of Proposed Research Project: Feasibility Studies of the Object Tracking through the Use of Color HUE Image Processing
Abstract of Proposed Research Project (max 250 words):
Background: Many industrial, commercial, public safety and military applications today are using on extended scale the autonomous systems to increase productivity, reduce the production and operation costs, and manpower. With the improvement of image processing techniques, camera processing capabilities and more efficient vehicles, a new wave of fully autonomous vehicles and robots can be implemented. Man-machine interactions, on the other hand, have become an important topic for the robotic and autonomous vehicle communities. Issues with image processing are that there are different ways to look at images, analyze, extract and deduce relevant information needed from the processed image(s). To fix the problem of inadequate processed images, a specific image process can be defined in order to create a common-place strategy for autonomous systems. One of the simplest image processing techniques uses color hue image processing to discern where objects are in the frame and then can be tracked from there. This mode may not be feasible to all applications, but a color-code feature could be added to the objects needing to be tracked in order to widen the scope and use of this method. In this project, we are trying to study and determine the feasibility, performances and the applications for the hue image processing in the object tracking with focus on the industrial process applications. We are intended to study and to develop dedicated image processing methods and software applications and to study a separate and versatile overall image processor system that can be adapted to work in different applications.
