TEXT:Play-It’s not just for kids anymore (available on course website)LEARNING EXPERIENCES:Discussion PostsBecause we use Canvas to navigate resources this semester-forums are a great way that we can share ideas with each other and still be able to learn and work at your own pace and timetable. Don’t email me asking if there is way I can turn off the stream of emails. This is how we can share in discussions. You each bring unique experiences and education to the table-don’t cheat yourselves out of learning from your peers. In order to receive full points, you must not only post your own forums, but you must share your thoughts and ideas related to what your peers have written to receive full points. Again, you each have gifts to bring to the learning table-Please don’t cheat your peers out of your experience and knowledge. Reflections:Each student will complete the reflections found at the beginning of each chapter in your course manual. These reflections allow for insightful reflection of play, recreation, and leisure and its place in your growth and development as well as the potential impact on your future. Upon completion of course reader reflections you will write a detailed reflection of what you learned from the reflections. Be specific and provide detailed examples. Only your final reflective analysis of what you learned will be handed in-individual reflections (1-11) are used to help you process and make sense of the play literature and are not submitted. Leisure, Recreation and Seniors:The purpose of this assignment is to explore play, recreation, and leisure in the lives of seniors. By seniors I mean ages 50 and older. I had a student a few semesters ago who defined a senior as someone in their late 30’s-bless his heart! We are looking for seniors ages 50 and up. You need to interview a minimum of 10 seniors (extra credit to those who interview more). You need to ask your seniors the following information:*Age*Gender (no need to ask-but we need for data purposes)*Did you play regularly as young child?*Did you work as a teenager?*Did you attend college or start working after high school?*What were the biggest barriers to your play, recreation in your 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s?*Are you retired? If so at what age did you retire?*What barriers exist in your play, recreation, and leisure today?*In looking at your play across the lifespan what changes would you make if any?*What health ailments do you contend with that can prevent you from participating in activities you enjoy? As well as securing the above information you will need to secure a scholarly journal article related to play and adults-you may want to consider sub topics like senior and leisure, seniors and recreation-no websites, magazines, or newspapers. Discuss your findings as well as how the findings relate to the article you have found. Be sure to include the above information in a table or graph to allow for easier data consolidation.Look forward to your findings.Investigative Report:Each student will work to investigate a topic related to play. For example, you can choose play and development, play and academic success, play and disabilities, play and seniors, etc. You will review and analyze 5 scholarly journal sources (No websites, newspapers, or magazines). You will report on your findings. APA Format required-see course website for cliff-note version of APA. You will not draft a paper, but you will present your information in a Power Point Presentation format. Get creative on how you will present what you have learned. Be sure to include a reference slide and cite throughout your power point presentation. Give credit where credit is due Leisure Log:This class is designed around you. In an effort to assist you recapturing your inner child, you will be keeping a play journal. You will keep log of the time you make time for play, these include planned and spontaneous play experiences throughout the day, week, and month ahead. Included in the log should be: 1) location of play, 2) materials for play if any, 3) describe how you felt before you played and after. 4) include a reflective and descriptive analysis of what you learned by keeping track of your leisure time. Personal Play Day:This is where you get to bet the pied piper of play and lead a minimum of 5 individuals, nepotism works best here. Your job is to come up with 3 activities, can be arts and crafts, group game, relays, etc. Mix it up. You need to take pictures and share what activities you implemented and how your participants felt about their experience in your play day. Be sure to be descriptive and specific in your analysis of what took place. What play theories relate to your Personal Play Day. Again don’t just state but explain and justify why you thinks those theories apply. Failure to include pictures will result in a loss of points. Pictures need to show players in action. Videos are also great resources as well. undefined
