You will view the streaming performance of Hansel and Gretel adapted by Elena Velasco (yes) and Tori Bertocci, produced by Synetic Theater. This is a physical theatre version of the original fairy tale. You may not substitute with another version. You will analyze this work in a three page paper (three full pages). You will need to provide at least three quotes from one of the acting texts we studied ( Black Acting Methods, Games for Actors and Non-Actors , and/or Respect for Acting .) In your paper, you will address the following questions:
Share observations about the physicalization of character by at least one of the actors. Describe how the performer uses the body to convey the character.

Discuss how and what are the themes reinforced through non-verbal storytelling. What moments are the most vivid and clear? Why?

This production was created as an all-ages performance so it could be experienced by families. How is the use of non-verbal text employed to keep the story engaging for children but also dynamic for adults?

Do you find the performance to be truthful and authentic? Remember – the question is not whether the performance is “realistic” but if it fully and honestly materializes the world of play through the character’s engagement with the story. And remember to focus on the presentation and content of the material, not whether you like/hate the play itself.

You are welcome to write more than three pages but no more than five (only allowing for more if you feel so driven). SPELLING, GRAMMAR and SENTENCE STRUCTURE COUNT! Remember that though you are providing your reflection, this is an academic, analytical paper. No conversational language is permitted. You are welcome to submit early for feedback.

Write in an essay form. Do not simply answer each question above individually. Remember that an essay begins with a thesis (in your first paragraph), the body of the essay (supporting arguments and observations) and a conclusion (not a repetition of your opening nor a summary).
