1. The topic: In this paper the writer will review the Theory or Theories and research of one particular sport psychology area of study, and create a synthesis of the theory and research. You should choose a topic that is interesting to you and one with an availability of appropriate research material. The text of the paper should not be a re-hash of the sport psychology textbook. You should use the literature to make a synthesis of the research information. For those of you who wish to go to graduate school this will be a mini Review of Literature. The topic should relate to one of the topics covered in the textbook chapters or in lecture as stated by the syllabus, but it does not have to. Because the chapters cover a broad area you should have no problem picking topics. For example, history of sport psychology, personality and sport performance, causal attribution in sport, achievement goal perspectives and sport, intrinsic/extrinsic motivation, self-efficacy and self-confidence, arousal and competitive anxiety, attention/concentration in sport, aggression in sport, character development, cohesion and sport performance, leadership and coaching issues, burnout, drug abuse, & the injured athlete are all covered and provide a broad range of potential topic areas.2. Paper Length and Style: Your paper must be a minimum length of 8 written pages (not including cover page and references) and no more than 10 pages, and it must be typed, with 1 inch margins, and 12 point Times Roman font. The APA style is required, and if you have questions you should visit the Writing Center. I expect you to treat the reader as an intelligent lay person who knows nothing about your topic. In that end, you will need an introduction, a body that thoroughly examines the topic, and a conclusion that emerges from the body. You should use at least 8 sources, including books and journal articles. NO online articles are allowed (unless they are full text downloads of journal articles). I will check for grammar and writing style so once again, you should visit the Writing Center for assistance.
