1. June 6 – Frank Company sold merchandise on account to Johnson Company, $15,000, terms FOB
destination, 1/15, n/eom. The cost of the merchandise sold was $12,000.
2. June 6 – Frank Company paid transportations costs of$ 100 for delivery of merchandise sold to
Johnson Company on June 8.
3. June 12 – Johnson Company returned $4,000 of merchandise purchased on account on June 6th
from Frank Company. The cost of the merchandise returned was $3,000.
4. June 20 – Johnson Company paid Frank Company for the purchase of June 8th, less discount and
less return of June 12th.
Instructions:
Illustrate the effects of each of the preceding transactions on the balance sheets of (1) Frank Company
and (2) Johnson Company. Identify each transaction by date. Problem #2
The cash account for Leisure Systems at Feb 29 2012, indicated a balance of $4,720. The bank statement
indicated a balance of $18,650 on Feb 29, 2012. Comparing the bank statements and accompanying
cancelled checks and memos with records reveals the following reconciling items:
1. Checks outstanding totaled $13,960.
2. Deposits of $9,350 representing receipts of February 29 had been made too late to appear on the
bank statement.
3. The bank had collected $ 8,560 on a note left for collection. The face of the note was $8,000.
4. Bank service charge for February amounted $50._x000D_
5. A check drawn for $930 had been incorrectly charged by the bank as $390
6. A check for $520 had been incorrectly recorded by Leisure Systems as $790.The check had been for
payment for supplies from Taft Co on account (actual amount owed was in fact $790).

Tax Memo
Background: 
The accountant for George’s Plumbing, Inc. has approached you for some tax advice about how to handle some items on the income tax return for the business. The business is a C corporation. The corporation is a calendar year end, cash basis taxpayer. The business suffered a significant downturn in 2019 due to COVID so in 2020 the business obtained a Paycheck Protection Program (“PPP”) loan of $2 million to cover payroll, employee health care costs, rent and utilities. The loan covered all the costs so you can safely assume all of the $2 million dollars was used to pay for the cost of payroll, employee health care costs, rent and utilities. The business now wants to apply for the forgiveness of the PPP loan but needs advice for the following: 
1. Was the PPP loan taxable to George’s Plumbing, Inc. when it was received in the 2020 tax year? 
2. Can the expenses that were incurred by the business in 2020 for the costs of the payroll, health care costs for the employees, rent and utilities be claimed as in income tax deduction on the 2020 income tax return?
3. If the business applies for forgiveness of the loan in 2021 will the forgiveness of the debt be regarded as cancellation of debt income (“CODI”) and taxable to the corporation?

Benefits of Organizational Diversity
You are the consultant assigned to study the organizational environment in the Miami, Florida, and the Kansas City, Missouri, offices. Both are service call centers for Fig Technologies. The workforces have a large cross-section of locals from the area, university graduates from nearby institutions, and transfers from other offices within the organization. The offices are facing issues in several areas. 
The two offices have a friendly rivalry with regard to professional sports and local college teams. In the Florida office, there have been concerns raised, including some complaints that the rivalry has gone to extremes. 
Contingent software developers in both offices from Brazil and South Africa have been unable to get people excited about fútbol instead of football. A few individuals in the Kansas City office have begun hanging out together and talking in the break areas about their relationships with same-sex partners, multiple partners, and some encounters of homosexual and heterosexual relationships together. A petition is circulating around the Kansas City office about these types of discussions being banned. 
You are being sent to assess the environment and provide a report of your findings. The report should be in three sections: 

assessment of findings in Miami, FL; 
assessment of findings in Kansas City, MO; and 
recommendation for addressing these findings to the Executive Leadership Council (ELC) for review. 

In your assessment of findings, be sure to evaluate how organizational cultures are perceived and how problem solving and creativity are promoted with organizational diversity. In your recommendations for the ELC, contrast the benefits and disadvantages of diversity, and establish the value of working through these issues to create a dynamic organizational culture.
