Part one of the assignment introduces you to leadership in modeling. You will start by gaining a preliminary and high level understanding of descriptive and predictive modeling techniques as well as unsupervised and supervised segmentation, clustering and basic regression (don’t worry about the formulas or how they were derived). Then, based on your problem statement from week 2 as well as your analysis of the data and data preparation stages from week 3, you are to select a descriptive analytics modeling technique and explain how it will assist you in providing the hindsight needed to ensure that the team fully understands the business and the business problem. We are following CRISP-DM so it is assumed from previous assignments that you have an understanding of your business problem, a further understanding of the data, have an idea of how you will prepare the data, as well as how you will fit the model to the data. This part of the assignment should be no no longer than the equivalent of two double spaced pages.Part two of the assignment continues with the next phase of the CRISP-DM process where will you lead the analytics team from establishing good hindsight into “what happened” to foresight “what will happen”. For this part of the assignment, please describe what predictive analytics model or models you would use to address the business objectives and provide data products that top management can use to render strategic and tactical decisions? This week’s assignment will also provide you with the opportunity to provide assurances that you have the controls in place to tune your model to the data so that you will be ready for the evaluation and deployment phases of the analytics-based initiative, in line with the CRISP-DM model. What data issues do you foresee in the interaction between the data and the model? Remember that the data/model interchange is an iterative process and should be thoroughly tested before release.
