Pre-Columbian World:This first assignment consists of four content type-written pages. As stated in the synopsis section, you should think of it as an intellectual exercise whose purpose it to assess your understanding of the subject you have chosen. Since this first assignment is about the Pre-Columbian world, it must look into how the ancient Mexicans told the stories about themselves before the arrival of the European invaders. For example, what was their world outlook through acts of verbal creation. Whether you analyze a poem or a prose piece of writing, you need to show a basic understanding of the author purpose within the context of the historical circumstance in which he/she lived, for instance. You must state your position based on academic research not on anecdotal information. Your are expected to use at least two web-based bibliographical references in addition to your book. Always ask yourself questions as you move along this process. For example, what did you learn from the readings? What is the main point the author wants to convey? Do you agree or disagree with what you found out? etc. Because this a literature course, it is essential that you research the author and his work – whether a poem (Cuícatl), story or discourse (Tlahtolli) you have decided to read and analyze. (More about this in class). Finally, if you use Google Docs or Word, convert your papers to PDF format, then upload the file. Make sure you look at the due dates for all your assignments as no late assignments will be accepted (the system will allow you a grace period, however, if turn in your projects late, your grade will be affected).Remember, you have my mobile number and the Canvas email to get in touch with me. Needless to say, I encourage you to attend every Zoom meeting when you get the invite after the first lecture on the first week of February 2021. The following videos are a good audio visual tool to help you understand some aspects of the Pre-Columbian world.
