Bill is 48 years old and has repaired lawn mowers in his small shop in Fairview, Tennessee for the last 8 years. Last week, he received a bulletin from this leading tractor manufacturer that it is introducing a new model with a new computer-based monitoring system. Although he has dealt with limited applications of computer chips in these machines, this is a much more sophisticated application. He knows that several of his customers own this brand of mower and that they are likely to buy the new models. He wants to learn how to repair these computer-based monitoring systems. In the bulletin, the company announced a limited number of seminars at the manufacturing plant in Horicon, Wisconsin. It has also announced a series of Webinars and online training sessions for the new innovation. There is also a manufacturer’s service manual for the new models. Bill cannot take time off or afford to travel to the seminars.

student 1The story “Oedipus the king” by Sophocles uses many different literary elements throughout the story. The first being, metaphor, as used in the excerpt, “who cannot yet fly far, and some of us heavy with age” (Sophocles 717). Next Sophocles utilized imagery as used in the excerpt, “King you yourself have seen our city reeling like a wreck already; it can scarcely lift its prow out of the depths, out of the bloody surf” (Sophocles 717). Two themes in the text are, blindness to his own actions, and pride which prevents him from doing what is necessary which will lead to his fall. These literary elements help build the image of the story, by guiding the reader to seeing what is going on through imagery  and metaphors. As far as my thoughts on the story, I thought it was ok, it defiantly kept my attention, but once again it was not a story type I would go out looking to read.Citations:student 2 n the play “Oedipus the King” by Sophocles, some of the literary elements are irony and symbolism. The irony presented in this play is dramatic irony “I cannot say your remedy was good; you would be better dead than blind and living.” (Sophocles 746). Eyes are a major symbolism in this play since referring to the sight and the blind of those that have a vision or those that are blind. “He has been your friend before all men’s eyes; do not cast him away dishonored on an obscure conjecture.” (Sophocles 717). Some themes are sight vs blindness and guilt and shame. Sight vs blindness is part of the plot of this play and it can be identified when Oedipus mocks Tiresias’s blindness, Tiresias predicts that Oedipus will be blind soon. Also, the theme of guilt and same represent this play when Thebes suffers because the person guilty of killing the king Laius is not found yet to make justice. “For you whom these words please, the other Thebans, may Justice as your ally and all the Gods live with you, blessing you now and forever!” (Sophocles 717). “I heard that, too, but no one saw the killer.” (Sophocles 717). The literary elements complement and develop the meaning of the play and the themes because demonstrate how important was the truth and justice in Oepidus’s society, no matter how painful, dangerous, or tragic were the consequences. This play was not my favorite. I did not find it too interesting. However, it leaves a good message. Nobody can control or escape from destiny.
