Assignment: Your midterm essay is an analysis of an issue that troubles, fascinates, enlightens, or illuminates something within your chosen text(s). You should compare or contrast the ways at least two separate academic disciplines analyze this topic. While I will not give specific provocations (or questions) to you about where to concentrate your writing, I hope to offer many questions and issues during the lectures and class discussions.My only designations are that you should write about the material that we have read, viewed, and discussed in Units One, Two and Three. It allows you to join the conversation surrounding an issue or debate by supporting your claims with evidence, considering counter-arguments, and using multiple sources. In fact, in academic writing contexts you will almost always do more than report on information that you have gathered through research. You will also need to construct a point of view and provide evidence to develop your own considered argument. Speech #2 Guidelines: Social Issues (Organization) SpeechThe primary purpose of informative speaking is to ensure an audience’s clear understanding of the ideas presented. In this speech, you will be selecting a nonprofit organization (The Red Cross, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and the Humane Society are a few examples) that you believe strongly in and inform your audience about it. Again, your goal with this presentation is to inform us about your organization, not persuade (we’ll get to that later!), so while I am asking you to pick something to care about, be sure to reign in the desire to convince your audience to take an action.
