Essay Assignment #1: Short Stories
Your first essay assignment is based upon your readings of the short stories to be read. Write a well-developed essay as you respond analytically to the story. Â Include in your discussion all the points asked to be addressed. Â Â DO NOT NARRATE. Â Explain its critical significance and quote generously from the story to support your ideas. Â Be structured and focus on a controlling thesis. Â If you must use research, please document appropriately using MLA format. Length: 4 pages (not 3 1/2)
Choose ONE of the following topics:
Men and women living in society often must choose between the dictates of their conscience and what is expected of them as members of a community.  Using Chopin’s “The Story of an Hour†and Hawthorne’s “Young Goodman Brownâ€, discuss the way or ways in which the author dramatizes the character’s struggles to live her/his lifestyle. How significant is this in relation to others either in or outside their community?  Does the author make this important?  How?  Are their any similarities or differences in Louise and Miss Emily’s plight as a woman that creates their conflict in society?
In the two stories, “Araby†by James Joyce and “The Red Convertible†by Louise Erdrich, both main characters are trapped. Whether trapped by social roles, by circumstance, or by their own limitations, they are unable to escape their destinies. In a well-developed essay, explain what factors imprison each character (show what, how, and why); then consider whether –and how–each escaped. Discuss how characterization in “The Red Convertible†and the function of setting in “Araby†affect the character’s situation.
3. “The Cask of Amontillado†is considered one of Edgar Allan Poe’s best short stories, and with good reason: it combines tension, horror, and surprise together masterfully. Discuss two or three major themes of “The Cask of Amontillado†to demonstrate how he brings together three elements. Be clear in identifying the themes and support well using the text.
solved Choose one video. In 250 words, respond to the following
/in /by adminChoose one video. In 250 words, respond to the following prompts.1) Identify which video you watched. Briefly describe the dancers’ movement and the dance in the video. Be very specific about the things that you observe. Think about what the dancers are wearing and where they are dancing. Do they take up a lot of room, or do they stay in one place? Do the dancers face each other in a circle or face the audience in a line? Who are they dancing for? What kind of musical or rhythmic accompaniment do they have? Use the characteristics of movement description in “Movement Observation Guidelines†attached to this assignment description.2) Then, write about how you think this dance conveys messages about what it means to belong to this nation or culture. From your descriptions think about what rules exist in this dance. What messages are in those rules about what it means to be a part of this national or community culture? How does the dance relate to a way of being? For example, as a child I grew up in a small city in Texas. National holiday celebrations like the Fourth of July were celebrated with parades and marching bands that went through downtown. The “rules†of the marching band’s “dance†were to stand in line, stand up straight, walk on the beat, follow the conductor, and move in unison. If I begin to unpack this dance even further and think more critically about parades and marching bands in this context, the notions of patriotism and the government come up. Evaluating these movement rules, I can begin to uncover how those rules tell me how to exist within the structure of the dance as well as in my community: join the group, assimilate, follow one leader, serve my country, no speaking out, no dissent, etc. When I analyze this dance, I can then outline the rules, the meanings, and messages that are being communicated. I can also begin to see how this dance is a powerful embodiment of both government and small-town culture. I can point out the rules of the dance, and the meanings and messages these rules convey to my community and me.

Hospitals printing 3-D hearts to help in surgeries
For your discussion, I am including below links to news item (and videos) detailing how doctors and hospitals are developing models of patients’ hearts using 3-D printing technology to help them better prepare for surgical procedures. Using 3-D printing, their goal is to create an online database of 3-D printed heart from patients with congenital heart defects, which will help standardize the process of printing hearts.
3-D printing technology is offering a revolutionary way to develop to pursue new product development in all industrial settings. Back in 2014 when I was doing my clinical research sabbatical fellowship at NIH, 3-D printing application were being explored in prosthetic devices as well. Lately, these 3D-printable prosthetics are changing the face of medicine. Consumer 3D printing is leading to a “DIY” assistive devices revolution.
Provide your opinion on what your learned from these news items. In your discussion, you may include your insights on how else can 3-D printing be used in medical care and on how manufacturers in other industries are now using, or can use, this product development technology.

InstructionsYou have recently been promoted to Health Services Manager at Three Mountains Regional Hospital, a small hospital located in a mid-size city in the Mid-West. Three Mountains is a general medical and surgical facility with 400 beds. Last year there were approximately 62,000 emergency visits and 15,000 admissions. More than 6,000 outpatient and 10,000 inpatient surgeries were performed. As a means to build trust between the organization and the patients, you have been tasked with the drafting of a memorandum (memo) to all employees that perform patient intake functions. The focus of this Memo is to highlight the necessary forms that need to be completed during the intake/admissions process and an explanation as to why they are necessary. Often patients are handed a form to fill out but do not receive a proper explanation as to why it is necessary for them to provide the required information. Without the proper information, patients, more now than ever, are hesitant to provide all of the necessary information. You will need to address the following components in your memo:Introduction: Explain why you are sending this memo. Provide an overview of the patient trust issues and why it is important for the employees to be able to discuss each of the forms with the patients during the intake process.List of the Required Forms: List and describe each of the required forms at admission.Importance of each form to the organization: For each form you list, you will need to add why that form is important to the organization and necessary for the patient to complete. Conclusion: In this part, you will wrap up the memo and provide additional resources available to the employees if they have further questions.Proper Memo Formatting: Â This a professional document and needs to be structured as a memo and not as an essay. You will still need to supply both in-text and full citations for the sources of your information.

/in /by adminDiscussion Overview
Plagiarism is often thought of only in the context of academic institutions, but there are many reported situations outside of the classroom where individuals use ideas from other people without giving proper credit. While in school, the consequences may be reflected in a student’s grade. Outside of school, the consequences may tarnish a professional’s reputation and potentially bring legal action. This week’s reading and learning activities included resources to help you avoid plagiarism, and this discussion will give you an opportunity to practice those skills. For another helpful overview of plagiarism, review the TED Talks Punishable Perils of Plagiarism.
For this week’s discussion, you will find a credible source that either presents a rival perspective to your argument for change or will help you address a rival hypothesis that you identified in the Unit 4 Assignment. Then, you will share a key passage from the source that is relevant to the rival hypothesis and paraphrase that information using a signal phrase and in-text citation. Respond to the following prompts in at least two well-developed paragraphs (not including the copied-and-pasted material from your secondary source):
Identify the rival hypothesis you need to address in your essay.
Describe the rival source you found and why you selected that source. What makes this a credible source?
Copy and paste a 1–5 sentence passage from the source and label it as the “Original Passage.â€
Paraphrase the short passage you shared in a way that you might use the idea in your essay (for example, refute the rival hypothesis). Be sure to use in-text citations with any sentences paraphrasing ideas from the source, e.g., (Doe, 2013) or According to Jane Doe (2013). Remember from your reading that an effective paraphrase sets up the information and explains it in a way that connects it to your argument (Krause, 2007).Â
Ask an open-ended question related to how you can effectively address the disagreement in your argument or related to paraphrasing and using sources.

RE: Week 5 Discussion pt.1
COLLAPSE
The Etruscan Roman civilization was very much inspired by Greek art. They imported work from Greek artists in large quantities. The Apollo of Veii sculpture shows influence of Greece. With a strong, forward stepping body and a slight smile is similar to pieces from the Archaic period in Greece. The differences are the strong, exaggerated stance and the fully clothed body compared to the subtle stance and bare sculptures in Greece. Also, the Mars of Todi could be compared to several pieces of Greek art by the way the hands are raised and the head pointed to the sky. It looks to me like a sign of acknowledging the gods, something seen a lot in ancient Greek art.
The Head of a Man represents Brutus, an important leader due to its large size, and detailed body. This art is a style of portraiture called veristic. Compared to Ancient Greek art, it seemed like Rome believed power and strength was based on age and wisdom. The Brutus sculpture showed a serious and broad face, it made him look like a leader. Greek art often showed young men with slight smiles in a pose to look important. The faces were generalized in Greece compared to the detail in Rome. A detailed realism in veristic portraiture showed a purity and strength to Roman culture and art. Today, I feel like we express a mix of detail and generalization. Of course online and on social media, everyone pays attention to detail. They try to take the pictures that  show off their best features. I would say most people in world we live in today pay more attention to beauty and detailed features than anyone else in human history. However, I think it has become such an overwhelming and generalized attribute to society. With so many people just trying to look good for others to see for higher status on social media is just so normal today. Filters and photoshop allows people to put an even more general look on how they look. People are becoming so obsessed with looking good instead of appreciating their natural and detailed beauty.
