Information and digital literacy impacts the decision-making process in multiple ways from academic research to personal interest. More than ever before, information is at our fingertips and coming at us with lightning speed. How do we sift and use this information (CO1)? Step 4 of the Big 6 model relates to our use of information and the process of engaging and extracting relevant information. Next, Step 5 of the Big 6 approach focuses on synthesis of information (CO8).
Your instructor will set-up four (4) conversation groups this week in which you will select one or more topics to discuss which are of high interest to you.

To begin engaging in this forum, choose one of the conversation groups. Select a topic reference source from the web, which you deem credible and reliable. Read the source, extract the information and consider how you will engage your group members in the topic and information from the source. Be sure to include source attribution. As you are reading your source, consider the following: 

How will you synthesize and present the content of the source to share?
What do you want your group members to know, and what do they need to know?
How will you share the information so that the content is clear and concise?
This is an opportunity for you to practice use of information and synthesis as you share with one another your own knowledge combined with a supporting source.

At a minimum, participate in one group, although you are welcome to participate in all group threads. Once the conversation is flowing, participate substantially with your peers to teach one another.

Prior to working on this discussion, read Chapter 8 in your textbook and all of this week’s assigned articles.Chapter 8 introduces lean philosophies that focus on elimination of waste and the increase of logistics speed and flow, and the assigned articles (Beard & Butler, 2000; and Wiese, Luke, Heyns & Pisa, 2015) examine adaptation of the JIT inventory management system by different manufacturers and the relationship among green, lean, and global supply chain strategies. One noteworthy example is Apple Inc., which utilizes a JIT approach locally while still sourcing globally, saving millions in inventory expense.In your initial post, provide a specific example of a company that implemented the JIT approach as one of their lean inventory practices. You can select a company from your own research (using credible resources) or choose one from the assigned readings.Select from the following list two specific ways the JIT approach helped your chosen company improve their global competitiveness and supply chain efficiency:Reduced inventory levelsShortened production runs or lead timesMinimized waiting linesImproved quality of inbound materialsImproved supplier relationshipsAny other consequences of JIT adaptationExplain your two selections by analyzing the changes the company implemented and how (or how not) the lean philosophy was beneficial for the company in those specific areas. As indicated, you can use an example of a company where the lean philosophy did not work for them and analyze what went wrong, which assumptions they made that were faulty, and what they can do to correct the situation. Your initial post must be a minimum of 200 to 250 words.

Throughout your education, you have been asked to research topics and write papers, engage in thought-provoking discussions, consider diverse perspectives, and a host of other challenges that have required you to use both your discipline-specific skills as well as your soft skills. These are called transferable skills, and are skills that you develop that can be transferred and applied within your chosen career. Transferable skills are highly valuable and essential for career success.
Throughout this course, you have been working on a project that allowed you to demonstrate your understanding of the transferable skills. It is now time to submit your project/assignment and add a transferable skills reflection.
To complete this assignment, you will need to do the following:
Part I: Compiling Your Exemplar Project

Compile all of your completed course project assignment deliverables. Place them in the proper order, and save them in a single Microsoft Word document.

Part II: Transferable Skills Self Reflection
1.In a minimum of 1 full page, using Microsoft Word, write an essay (full introduction and conclusion), which includes the following:

Describe the knowledge, skills and/or attitudes regarding each of the transferable skills that you’ve gained as a result of completing this particular project/assignment.
Discuss the ways that you are going to incorporate the transferable skills (the transferable skills that you showcased in your exemplary project) into your work within your chosen career field.
Describe your future goals based on the transferable skills that you’ve chosen to showcase.
Write your paper utilizing proper tone, spelling and grammar.

You will review quantitative research. The topic is up to you as long as you choose a peer-reviewed, academic research piece. I suggest choosing a topic that is at least in the same family as your expected dissertation topic so that you can start viewing what is out there. There are no hard word counts or page requirements as long as you cover the basic guidelines (ideally 6-7 pages). You must submit original work, however, and a paper that returns as a large percentage of copy/paste to other sources will not be accepted. (Safe Assign will be used to track/monitor your submission for plagiarism. Submissions with a Safe Assign match of more than 10% will not be accepted.) Please use APA formatting and include the following information:Introduction/Background: Provide context for the research article. What led the author(s) to write the piece? What key concepts were explored? stereotyping is an important tool that allows humans to categorize information since we really can’t juggle so much data without some sort of internal “filing system”.  Of course, we need to be careful not to allow stereotypes to dictate everything about a particular person or we run the risk of overattributing or overgeneralizing and missing important information unique to each individual. 
Please take a few minutes to consider the PSA from Denmark that we watched in class last week.  This runs on public television and helps remind the population that each of us is unique and have multi-faceted lives.

While thinking about stereotyping and other facets of our process of perception, also consider how deception factors into our perceptions and ultimately, our lives.  Are you less likely to trust someone who has betrayed you in the past?  Have you been the person who has deceived another?  As we discussed, Buller & Burgoon’s article on “Interpersonal Deception Theory” discusses three very distinct types of deception 1) Falsification 2) Concealment 3) Equivocation.  
Next take the time to watch the film “Catch Me If You Can” with Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.  Watch this not just for enjoyment, but consider how perception and deception is illustrated in this film.  Consider how Frank Abignale, Jr. manipulates others perception of him as a means to an end.
Finally, please provide three specific examples from the film that illustrate falsification, concealment and equivocation.
