Your 1 page journal entry should be a personal reflection on whatever interested you the most in the material assigned this week. Explain how the readings/films/class discussions, etc. challenged you, inspired you, frustrated you, intrigued you, motivated you, etc. etc. You might consider addressing how the content made you reconsider a preconceived idea or thought; how the content motivated you to live or treat others differently; how the content frustrated you or made you uncomfortable; how the content contradicted or confirmed your own experiences; how the content connects to prior material in the course or content in your other classes; how you see the content connecting to politics, your religion, your family, your community (college or elsewhere), the media you consume, etc. Ultimately, the journal entries are a chance for you to demonstrate knowledge of the that week’s material while also applying it to personal interests, experiences, etc. (Occasionally I will provide a more specific prompt or series of questions to answer—so, make sure you always check on Canvas before beginning each journal—but, I am leaving today’s prompt relatively open-ended and giving you the opportunity to craft your own focus!)
At the end of your journal entry, please propose a specific discussion question you would like the class to address in our class discussion. The discussion question should be focused on that day’s material but it doesn’t necessarily have to have the same focus as your journal entry (though it certainly can!).

Examine changes introduced to reform or restructure the U.S. health care delivery system. In a 1,000-1,250 word paper, discuss action taken for reform and restructuring and the role of the nurse within this changing environment.Include the following:Outline a current or emerging health care law or federal regulation introduced to reform or restructure some aspect of the health care delivery system. Dudley (2020) points out that social work practice is usually embedded in programs. While you looked at practice evaluation using single-subject design in Week 3, this week, you shift focus to program evaluation. Program evaluation serves many purposes, including accountability to funders and to the public. Often, funding sources such as government agencies or private foundations requires periodic program evaluations. These evaluations can help provide answers to many different questions, and can contribute to improvement of services. There are a variety of program evaluation models that are appropriate for addressing different questions as well as facilitating the collection and analysis of many different types of data.To prepare for this Discussion, identify a program within an agency with which you are familiar, which could benefit from process evaluation and outcome evaluation. You do not need to identify the agency in your post. Also, review the different evaluation models highlighted in this week’s resources (needs assessment, program monitoring, client satisfaction study, outcome evaluation, or cost benefit study).By Day 3Post a brief summary of the program that you selected. Recommend a program evaluation model that would answer a question relevant to the program. Explain the potential benefits of the program evaluation that you proposed (both process and outcome). Discussion 2: Applying Theoretical Interventions for Clients Experiencing Life Transition and Developmental IssuesCertain elements of treatment planning for clients experiencing life transition and developmental issues may be easier than others. For instance, it may be obvious that a breadwinner’s job loss is the major concern facing a family. The more difficult part may be crafting clinical and treatment formulations for this issue that explain how it affects the clients, what needs they have, and how you, as a helping professional, plan to intervene (Sperry, 2005). As you examine life transition and developmental issues in this week and the next, use your theoretical orientation to conceptualize the scenarios presented and plan theory-based interventions.For this Discussion, consider a brief case history of a couple or family (this can be one with which you are familiar or a fictional couple). Begin to conceptualize the couple’s or family’s problem through your theoretical orientation and identify interventions that you might use. Search the Walden Library for articles that might be used to justify the interventions you selected.By Day 5Post a brief description of the couple or family case. Explain the theories and theory-based interventions to couples and families experiencing life transition and developmental issues you will apply to this case. WRITE AS IF YOU HAVE INTERVIEWED AN ELDERLY PERSON AND CONNECT WHAT THEY SAY WITH WHAT YOU HAVE “LEARNED” FROM the book American Yawp. It should not take more than 3 hours.
interview an elderly family member or friend about a major historical event, organization, or issue (For 2020 courses this may be Civil Rights Movement, Women’s Movement, Vietnam War, Labor Unions/workers rights, the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl). The event must be related to American History and within the scope of our class.

Craft a list of questions beforehand to help guide you.

The goal is to ask your interviewee what they know about a past event or issue, where they got that information—personal experience? News outlet? Word of mouth? Family history? What was their experience? Or are they recalling stories passed down through generations?

In a 3-4 page paper report on what your narrator discussed. Use the textbook, assigned readings, and class discussions to assess and evaluate the narrative told by the narrator. Do their memories uphold or contradict what you’ve learned or read in class? How can you account for any discrepancies, if they exist? What types of personal factors shape what people believe to be true about the past and their experiences? For example, does race, class, gender, economic status, geographic location or residence, or sexual orientation influence their narrative of the past. Where did they learn what they know about the past? For example, if you interview your grandmother about the 1960s and the Vietnam War, where did she get her information from—Television? Newspapers? Friends who may have served in the Vietnam War?
