Questions Â

Question #1
Consider the various aspects of science, technology, medicine, and society that we’ve discussed during the past six weeks, especially as they relate to questions of gender, sex, sexuality, race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status/social class. Consider what you have found most inspiring or promising and what you have found most limiting or problematic as regards the historical and ongoing relationships between science and society.Â
Please take some time to seriously consider what the relationships between science, technology, medicine, and society could or should be like in now and going forward into the short and/or long-term future. . In other words, please reflect on how the ideas, beliefs, practices, and values pertaining to the relationship between science and society could be – from your perspective – made better going forward. Can the intersections of science, technology, medicine, and society be different? Better? How?
You are welcome to approach your response in a broad sense, reflecting on large-scale social structures or institutions. On the other hand, some may find it helpful to narrow in on one particular aspect that we’ve explored. The choice is yours!
Question #2
As we’ve come to understand over the course of our class, a central aim of feminist science and technology studies involves persistently posing the questions: what counts as objective truth, who decides this, and on what basis are claims to truth legitimately made? During the last weeks of our course in particular, we’ve explored the relationship between various understandings of expertise and the relationship(s) of expert forms of knowledge to power, privilege, and the possibility of equity, justice, freedom, and democracy.
From your perspective, is there a fundamental tension between the exercise of scientific, technological, and/or medical expertise and democratic deliberation and decision-making? If so, why? If not, why not? In answering this question, please specify what you understand expertise to be. Please discuss a minimum of three distinct examples that speak to your answer. Any relevant course materials may be used in responses.

solved How tolerant were people of the 16th and 17th centuries
/in /by adminHow tolerant were people of the 16th and 17th centuries to different faiths, ideas and behaviors? Do some regions or groups seem more tolerant of differences than others? If so, why do you think that might have been the case? Base your discussion on these 4 documents for Week 3:
any two of the following: Luther, Witch-Persecution, Galileo
and Jahangir and Ricci
State your argument (your thesis) in a brief introductory paragraph and then use the rest of the essay to discuss the FOUR documents and support your position. Your essay should be based on a careful, thoughtful evaluation of the details of the documents. Do not simply summarize the documents. Use them to answer the prompt. Some parts of the documents may be more relevant than other parts. If a document has conflicting evidence, be sure to consider that. Include some brief quotations from the documents to enrich your evidence.
Your paper should mainly consist of discussion and analysis of what the documents say. This is an analytical essay, not a research paper; you should not use outside sources for this assignment. Draw your evidence and your quotes from the documents themselves. Keep quotations brief.Â
Do not rely too heavily on the introductions to the documents. Read them and learn from them. But if you use information from them, you should paraphrase (put into your own words) rather than quote. Don’t take up too much space (beyond a sentence here and there) relating the background to each writer and the context of each document.
The paper should be double-spaced, and use twelve-point Times New Roman font. Papers that fall well short of 1,000 words (about 3 pages using normal font and margins) will be penalized. You should not use footnotes or include a bibliography for this paper. Be sure to preface your quotes with a few words of your own, or integrate quotes into your prose.Â
Be very careful to avoid plagiarism. Do not use words or ideas from the internet, from any publicaÂtion, or from the work of another student without citing your source. If you use more than three words in a row from any source, including the document you’re writing about, those words must be enclosed in quotation marks.
solved Part Three, Long Essay: Choose one of the following two
/in /by adminPart Three, Long Essay: Choose one of the following two essay questions to answer. Support your argument with specific examples from your readings and the lecture. Be careful to provide a basic chronology for the events you describe; this means you must put down the approximate dates in which they occur. [40 points]A) The First World War ushered in an era of uncertainty and general discontent in the immediate postwar period. What was the nature of this malaise, and how did writers like Gertrude Stein, Oswald Spengler, and Aldous Huxley (Brave New World) critique emerging changes in global society? Next, identify the underlying crises that ultimately led to the Great Depression. What actions did national governments initially take to avert the collapse, and why did they fail? What new government programs did Franklin Roosevelt advocate to revitalize the economy and American society as a whole? Finally, what social and political alternatives emerged in Europe, Japan, and other regions of the world as a direct response to these postwar anxieties? In your answer, describe the rise of both Italian fascism and National Socialism. Why were these new ideologies considered appealing modern alternatives to established democratic systems? Be sure to utilize yourreadings from the Depression era, Brave New World, Hitler’s Mein Kampf, and other relevant documents to make a persuasive case.B) Historian Arno Mayer contends that the Second World War constituted only one half of a singular foundational event, a massive global war with a short intermission in between. Do you agree with his premise? What characteristics of the Second World War made it similar to the Great War, and in what ways was it remarkably different? What were the most significant turning points of the war? What factors led the nearly victorious Axis powers to ultimate failure, and what innate advantages allowed the Allies to turn the tide? Finally, discuss how legacies of the conflict like the Holocaust and Hiroshima transformed the postwar world. Draw on specific ideas from lecture and discussion, as well as On Hitler’s Mountain, Embracing Defeat, and your other assigned readings to support your argument.

solved Instructional Objectives, Assessments, and EvaluationsScenarioThe Labor Relations Department
/in /by adminInstructional Objectives, Assessments, and EvaluationsScenarioThe Labor Relations Department in a union-based manufacturing company has requested the design and development of a management training course to address the lack of preparedness for arbitration meetings. The meetings are a result of employee grievances against management actions or perceived contract violations. The organization loses 90% of the grievance cases taken to arbitration, costing millions of dollars. The findings of the needs analysis indicate that managers are unaware of basic policies set forth by the collective bargaining agreement and lack the interpersonal skills to de-escalate conflict. Seventy-five percent of the managers who are reported to Labor Relations through employee grievances have less than five years of management experience; however, the group averages 15 years of employment with the organization. Based on needs analysis, a training intervention is deemed appropriate to address the performance gap.Angela is a recent instructional design graduate who has been hired to join the Human Resources Training Department. Angela is assigned to the Labor Relations’ project during her second week on the job. Angela has been directed to formulate the learning objectives, assessments, and evaluation plan, based on the needs analysis. Although Angela completed design projects for her graduate courses and feels competent to develop the learning objectives, she is less certain of her capabilities concerning formative and summative assessments, and formative, summative, and confirmative evaluations. InstructionsWrite a paper, no more than 1 1/2 pages, in which you respond to the following:You are Angela’s coworker—explain the difference between the different types of assessments and evaluations. If you were Angela, what types of assessments (knowledge checks, role plays, pre- and post-assessments, et cetera.) would you consider for measuring the effectiveness of the instruction? If you were Angela, how quickly would you conduct a confirmative evaluation following the training, and what data would you collect to measure the effectiveness of the instruction?Helping Aid: Chapters 12 & 13
