For qualitative research, some variables of study can only be collected through certain methods. For example, some studies may utilize interviews whereas others may use observations (Privitera, 2017). The method dictates which approach is best and like quantitative methods, not all qualitative methods will work with every given research issue. For ethnography, its primary application is for approaching a given culture or group to better understand how it functions (how it exists/members co-exist, beliefs that are shared, forms involved, customs, and so on; Privitera, 2017).
