solved Prepare a 2-page interprofessional staff update on HIPAA and appropriate

Prepare a 2-page interprofessional staff update on HIPAA and appropriate social media use in health care.As you begin to consider the assessment, it would be an excellent choice to complete the Breach of Protected Health Information (PHI) activity. The will support your success with the assessment by creating the opportunity for you to test your knowledge of potential privacy, security, and confidentiality violations of protected health information. The activity is not graded and counts towards course engagement.Health professionals today are increasingly accountable for the use of protected health information (PHI). Various government and regulatory agencies promote and support privacy and security through a variety of activities. Examples include:

Meaningful use of electronic health records (EHR).
Provision of EHR incentive programs through Medicare and Medicaid.
Enforcement of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules.
Release of educational resources and tools to help providers and hospitals address privacy, security, and confidentiality risks in their practices.
Technological advances, such as the use of social media platforms and applications for patient progress tracking and communication, have provided more access to health information and improved communication between care providers and patients. At the same time, advances such as these have resulted in more risk for protecting PHI. Nurses typically receive annual training on protecting patient information in their everyday practice. This training usually emphasizes privacy, security, and confidentiality best practices such as:
Keeping passwords secure.
Logging out of public computers.
Sharing patient information only with those directly providing care or who have been granted permission to receive this information.
Today, one of the major risks associated with privacy and confidentiality of patient identity and data relates to social media. Many nurses and other health care providers place themselves at risk when they use social media or other electronic communication systems inappropriately. For example, a Texas nurse was recently terminated for posting patient vaccination information on Facebook. In another case, a New York nurse was terminated for posting an insensitive emergency department photo on her Instagram account.Health care providers today must develop their skills in mitigating risks to their patients and themselves related to patient information. At the same time, they need to be able distinguish between effective and ineffective uses of social media in health care. This assessment will require you to develop a staff update for the interprofessional team to encourage team members to protect the privacy, confidentiality, and security of patient information.Demonstration of Proficiency
By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the course competencies through the following assessment scoring guide criteria:
Competency 1: Describe nurses’ and the interdisciplinary team’s role in informatics with a focus on electronic health information and patient care technology to support decision making.

Describe the security, privacy, and confidentially laws related to protecting sensitive electronic health information that govern the interdisciplinary team.
Explain the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration to safeguard sensitive electronic health information.

Competency 2: Implement evidence-based strategies to effectively manage protected health information.

Identify evidence-based approaches to mitigate risks to patients and health care staff related to sensitive electronic health information.
Develop a professional, effective staff update that educates interprofessional team members about protecting the security, privacy, and confidentiality of patient data, particularly as it pertains to social media usage.

Competency 5: Apply professional, scholarly communication to facilitate use of health information and patient care technologies.

Follow APA style and formatting guidelines for citations and references.
Create a clear, concise, well-organized, and professional staff update that is generally free from errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Preparation
To successfully prepare to complete this assessment, complete the following:
Review the infographics on protecting PHI provided in the resources for this assessment, or find other infographics to review. These infographics serve as examples of how to succinctly summarize evidence-based information.

Analyze these infographics, and distill them into five or six principles of what makes them effective. As you design your interprofessional staff update, apply these principles. Note: In a staff update, you will not have all the images and graphics that an infographic might contain. Instead, focus your analysis on what makes the messaging effective.

Select from any of the following options, or a combination of options, the focus of your interprofessional staff update:

Social media best practices.
What not to do: Social media.
Social media risks to patient information.
Steps to take if a breach occurs.

Conduct independent research on the topic you have selected in addition to reviewing the suggested resources for this assessment. This information will serve as the source(s) of the information contained in your interprofessional staff update. Consult the BSN Program Library Research Guide for help in identifying scholarly and/or authoritative sources.
Instructions
In this assessment, assume you are a nurse in an acute care, community, school, nursing home, or other health care setting. Before your shift begins, you scroll through Facebook and notice that a coworker has posted a photo of herself and a patient on Facebook. The post states, “I am so happy Jane is feeling better. She is just the best patient I’ve ever had, and I am excited that she is on the road to recovery.”You have recently completed your annual continuing education requirements at work and realize this is a breach of your organization’s social media policy. Your organization requires employees to immediately report such breaches to the privacy officer to ensure the post is removed immediately and that the nurse responsible receives appropriate corrective action. You follow appropriate organizational protocols and report the breach to the privacy officer. The privacy officer takes swift action to remove the post. Due to the severity of the breach, the organization terminates the nurse.  Based on this incident’s severity, your organization has established a task force with two main goals:
Educate staff on HIPAA and appropriate social media use in health care.
Prevent confidentiality, security, and privacy breaches.
The task force has been charged with creating a series of interprofessional staff updates on the following topics:
Social media best practices.
What not to do: Social media.
Social media risks to patient information.
Steps to take if a breach occurs.
You are asked to select one of the topics, or a combination of several topics, and create the content for a staff update containing a maximum of two content pages. When distributed to interprofessional team members, the update will consist of one double-sided page. The task force has asked team members assigned to the topics to include the following content in their updates in addition to content on their selected topic(s):
What is protected health information (PHI)?

Be sure to include essential HIPAA information.

What are privacy, security, and confidentiality?

Define and provide examples of privacy, security, and confidentiality concerns related to the use of the technology in health care.
Explain the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration to safeguard sensitive electronic health information.

What evidence relating to social media usage and PHI do interprofessional team members need to be aware of? For example:

How many nurses have been terminated for inappropriate social media usage in the United States?
What types of sanctions have health care organizations imposed on interdisciplinary team members who have violated social media policies?
What have been the financial penalties assessed against health care organizations for inappropriate social media usage?
What evidence-based strategies have health care organizations employed to prevent or reduce confidentiality, privacy, and security breaches, particularly related to social media usage?

Notes

Your staff update is limited to two double-spaced content pages. Be selective about the content you choose to include in your update so that you are able to meet the page length requirement. Include need-to-know information. Leave out nice-to-know information.
Many times people do not read staff updates, do not read them carefully, or do not read them to the end. Ensure your staff update piques staff members’ interest, highlights key points, and is easy to read. Avoid overcrowding the update with too much content.
Also supply a separate reference page that includes 2–3 peer-reviewed and 1–2 non-peer-reviewed resources (for a total of 3–5 resources) to support the staff update content.

Please reply to the following post:Post 1The career/vocational/employment setting is where community counselors help individuals reintegrate into their community work environment. Many studies look upon the correlation between mental health and poverty, and many conclude that both interact. Poverty can be a cause or the result of poor mental health in an individual. This is why counselors need to help individuals with their career setting and understand the specific stressors affecting them. The career/ vocational/employment setting can be affected by many factors; some might have to do with the client’s behavior, but environmental factors can also affect it. It is important for counselors to assess those environmental factors and remind the client that they have no fault and to not self-blame. Counselors use positive career development that focuses on their strengths and interests and helps them look for resources that will expand on it. The primary mission for the counselor is to successfully integrate the client into a workforce that is compatible with their skills and interest. The counseling process focuses on the person’s human development and community development; both are needed for the client’s success. Discuss how the community counseling model would function in that settingThe community counseling model functions in these settings by working on both the humans and community development of the individual. When it comes to human development counselors, work on defining the individual’s career goals. These goals are defined in one-on-one therapy, where the counselors evaluate the client’s interests, abilities, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. The community counseling also works with structured workshops to help the client develop skills needed for their careers. Career setting issues can also be affected by environmental factors, and it is up to the counselor to advocate for their clients. Things like employment discrimination or unfair occupational practices are where community development is essential. It is up to the counselor to let the community know where they lack in the occupational world and who they are negatively affecting. Community counselors give voice to those who are unfairly treated and help open opportunities for their clients. Post 2No matter the nature of the setting of the community counseling the role of the counselor is the same; to help/assist individuals to develop their maximum potential and well-being and at the same time addressing obstacles in the environment impeding the achievement of these goals. One of those different community counseling setting is career/vocational/employment settings. The main goal of helpers here is to assist individuals having issues in the education and employment areas. People confronting situations of unemployment are aid to find not just a new job, but to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to perform accordingly to their workplace’s positions.Clients may be assisted with assessing their aptitudes, interests, abilities, goals, capacities and connect them with the right workplace, those stimulating their greatest potential. Simultaneously, counselors should advocates for the elimination of barriers, discrimination, recruiting practices, lack of security in the job places at company levels, as well as systemic level, like advocating for change in laws.Remediation of surging issues and problems is one avenue, prevention of them is also part of the role of counselors in community settings, prevention programs like preparing individuals for change in the labor market and the economy is needed too, and increasing public awareness about its effects. The community counseling model can be as broad as to help all the diversity of the population in a geographic area in these issues or very specialize in for example specific groups like youth, or hispanic, or women. In these late examples the counselor experience facing the particular problems affecting the particular group made them experts on the issues and on the possible solutions at both levels, individual and environmental. Targeting major problems require the effort and collaboration of many entities in the community for this reason counselors must maintain close ties with other agencies in order to help clients contact the most appropriate agencies and facilities for their needs.Post 3Community needs are barriers preventing the well-being of people in the community. In a positive way, one can define community needs as those challenges that must be addressed and overcome when human and material resources are pooled. Needs assessment tools are paramount for recognizing the priorities community counselors must target as their objectives in community programs. They provide counselors with valuable information that can be used to (a) select and prioritize problems and target populations, (b) identify and implement specific programs, and (c) evaluate the impact of these programs on the community. It is known because fiscal deficits, private or public entities are looking to reduce their spending, mental health services do not escape to this reality and reduction of funding is truth. Thus, community counselors have to be aware of directing the resources available to those areas in more need and that can be benefit the most in using monetary resources. Prioritizing is key to succeed in this matter.Approaches or assessment tools frequently used to performance community needs assessments include the following:1- Surveys.2- Community meetings and/or focus groups.3- Social indicators.4- Surveys of local agencies.5- Interviews with key informants.Social indicators: I have used this tool for my grant proposal. For example statistic about the incidence of vaping/e-cigarettes in high school students from the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has provided me with the quantitative information of why the prevention of vaping in youths is a community need. Further, these indicators allow counselors to present the Statement of Need to possibles founding sources. Interviews with key informants: This allows counselors to get information about real communities issues from individuals and institutions witnessing the problems directly. In our last example; school administrators and teachers are good sources of information about the vaping in high schools, they have abundant number of students episodes relate to vaping.Surveys: To finish with the same example of vaping, we can send self-questionnaires to high school students making them questions about their use of electronic cigarettes. Analyze the data, compare the results with the other two assessment tools mention before and decide if the prevention of vaping is needed.Post 4Counselors that move beyond the traditional counseling role and use a community counseling framework represent a multifaceted approach to professional helping. As counselors our overall goal is to assist the largest number of people in the most efficient and cost-effective way. Many times, counselors need to develop programs to address the needs of a community. These programs must be based on careful assessment of the community’s needs. Some of the most used tools a community counselor might consider to undertake a needs assessment are surveys, community meetings and/or focus groups, social indicators, surveys of local agencies and interviews with key informants. To effectively conduct a comprehensive needs assessment we can use any or a combination of these tools. A combinations approach would be more comprehensive to measure different factors. The following are three of the tools that I would use to assess the need for a new program:Surveys: This tool is used with all the members, a target population, or a sample of the members in a community. With this tool people are asked about information related to their characteristics or needs through mailed questionnaires, interviews or by telephone. The information gathered can be used to gain support for new programs, to evaluate existing programs, and to update data from previous needs assessments. I would use this tool for a new program to identify needs and strategies that may not been identify through other means, and to lobby support for it.Community meetings and/or focus groups: These groups are formal public hearings or informal discussion groups that serve two purposes. They reveal local priorities, and they provide a mean where the community members can have direct input and feel more involved in the development of the program. I think this is a particularly important tool that I would use for a new program in order to understand more profoundly the needs of the community from insiders, select and prioritize problems and target populations and get the community more involved with something that may benefit them.Interviews with key informants: Key informants might provide important information concerning unmet community needs. I would use this tool to implement ideas and identify priorities on which to base the new program’s objectives and evaluate the impact of the program on the community.

Acceptable sources include the Snipes: Vold’s Theoretical Criminology, peer-reviewed articles, and the Bible. This is the original post, you do not need to reply to this, this is used as a reference to get a better understanding of what we are discussing. Chapter 3 of Snipes: Vold’s Theoretical Criminology discusses the prominence and role of Cesare Bonesana, marchese de Beccaria (Beccaria). Discuss specific elements of our current American criminal justice system that are based on or hold-overs from Beccaria’s work. 1) Sarah Sweet- The understanding of criminology continues to be a metamorphosis with researchers contributing to existing theories established by philosophers of the past. Cesare Bonesana, marchese de Beccaria is one of the most noteworthy contributors to the field of criminology. Undeterred by the mainstream belief in the spiritual explanation of crime, and controversial in his concepts, Beccaria proposed systems and methods contrary to the existing, church-backed practices. Beccaria introduced classical criminology to a society accustomed to doling out barbaric punishments in answer to crimes they viewed as crimes against God. Beccaria believed that human criminal behavior was the result of social inequities and the individual weighing the costs and benefits of their actions. As such, he proposed several changes to the existing criminal justice system. Beccaria was opposed to judicial discretion, instead promoting legislative definitions of crime and their set punishments. As a part of this, judges should be limited strictly to the establishment of guilt or innocence.Beccaria also disagreed with any differentiations in punishment based on aggravating or mitigating circumstances. His stance was that “Sometimes, with the best intentions, men do the greatest injury to society; at other times, intending the worst for it, they do the greatest good,” (Snipes, 2019)Another assertion of Beccaria’s is of punishment being a deterrent and proportionate to the seriousness of the crime, with the goal of making the cost outweigh the benefit. He advised that excessive punishment encouraged crime rather than deterring it. For example, if the punishment for stealing was execution, an offender may feel they have nothing to lose by killing a victim.Retribution versus deterrence remains a contentious topic. Beccaria opposed excessive, retributive punishment in favor of deterrence. While punishment may have a deterrent effect, it is a question of whether it is a tool of’ just deserts or a means of discouraging potential criminal behavior (Deogaonkar, 2021) The Lord reserved revenge for himself. Leviticus 19: 18 commands, “Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against a fellow Israelite but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.” He then refers to his own revenge in Deuteronomy 32:35 that reads, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back. In due time their feet will slip. Their day of disaster will arrive, and their destiny will overtake them,” (Holy Bible, NLT). Belief that God reserves vengeance for himself alone, humankind must refrain from retributive punishments in favor of deterrence. One of the main concepts suggested by Beccaria is that punishment should be prompt. If the punishment phase of the justice system comes too late, it creates a disassociation from the crime and negates the deterrent effect. In addition to promptness, punishment should be certain. If a punishment is uncertain there is little to discourage the offense.Beccaria recommended that the laws be published to the public. His assertion is that without knowledge of the law, an individual would be denied of the option to choose the appropriate behavior. While this may seem common sense, modern society takes it for granted that laws are made known, in writing, for the public to understand. In the Journal of Law and Religion, Albert Alschuler highlights the utilization of discretion in the American criminal justice system to this day. Discretion plays a part in almost every part of the process. At the beginning of the process, law enforcement is able to use discretion when deciding whether or not to charge an individual with a crime. If, for example, they decide the homeless person who stole a sandwich, nor the public, would benefit from an arrest, they could choose to end the process by issuing a warning. A judge often uses discretion when determining sentences, perhaps ordering a lighter sentence on an offender who had mitigating circumstances and a stiffer sentence on an offender with aggravating circumstances. Alschuler, however, describes discretion gone wrong when referring to the practice of Presidential pardons. He provides the example of President Clinton and his pardon of a billionaire, white-collar criminal who also happened to be a major campaign contributor as an example of inappropriately utilized discretion that encourages crime (Alschuler, 2020).ReferencesAlschuler, A. (2020, April). Justice, Mercy, and Equality in Descretionary Criminal Justice Decision Making. The Journal of Law and Religion, 35(1), 18-32.Deogaonkar, A. (2021). Oxford University Press2) Miriam Foxx – In 1764, Cesare Bonesana, marchese de Beccaria, a newly graduated law student wrote an essay on crime and punishment. At that time, his reform ideas were considered radical, so he initially published anonymously.Below are some of his principles.-The role of the legislatures should be to define crimes and to define specific punishments for each crime.-The role of judges should be to determine guilt; whether the defendant had committed a crime-The seriousness of a crime is determined by the extent of harm that it inflicts on society.-The purpose of punishment is to deter crime; so, punishment should be proportionate to the seriousness of the crime.-Punishments are unjust when their severity exceeds what is necessary to achieve deterrence.-Excessive severity not only fails to deter crime but actually increases it.-Punishments should be prompt: The more promptly and the more closely punishment follows upon the commission of a crime, the more just and useful it will be.This week’s readings were my first introduction to Becarria and I realized there were some definite similarities based on my experience as a detective in investigations. I worked closely with the Deputy District Attorney’s office on several cases I was the lead detective on.Our Court system is based on or is a holdover from Becarria’s work. Becarria’s principles were obscure at that time but are standard in today’s criminal justice system. For example, Becarria’s principle on the legislature to define crimes and specific punishments for those crimes are like the State of California penal code laws that determine what is a crime and what elements are needed to violate that crime including punishment guidelines. When a defendant is arrested, the case is reviewed by the Deputy District Attorney who determines whether to issue the case against the defendant. If issued and the defendant pleads not guilty the case ultimately goes to trial (barring any dismissal of charges or motions/hearings). During trial is where the judge or jury hears all the evidence and if found guilty then sentencing happens. This part in the trial process is related to Becarria’s role of judges’ principle where guilt is determined. The judge presiding over the case will then determine the appropriate sentencing (based on Misdemeanor or Felony sentencing guidelines). In California, there are also timeframes for when the punishment be handed down for both Misdemeanor and Felony cases. The sentencing phase is related to Becarria’s rules on punishment being proportionate and prompt.Looking at scripture; Romans 13:1 discusses judgement, deterrence of crime and punishment. I thought this was appropriate for this week’s discussion question.‘Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer.’ (Romans 13:1 ESV)Crime and punishment has been a part of the human experience since the beginning of time.Bonesana, C., & Beccaria, M. solved Hello my name is Dina i need help with my

Hello my name is Dina i need help with my Essay please. This is all the Essay HereIn your outlining and drafting of this essay, read the prompt to see what it asks you to address. In essence, your paper should tell your readers what the progressive alternative media do (in what ways the media benefit the common citizen). So, each paragraph should be organized around that beneficial feature that distinguishes the independent media from the corporate propaganda. Your supporting evidence should come from the coverage of the strike by the progressive sources.Keep in mind that one of the common mistakes in organizing this essay is focus on the criticism of the corporate media. Even though they deserve criticism, it is not your writing task. In a real-life setting, if someone is reading your essay, it implies that she or he is already disappointed in the mainstream media, which fail to report clearly and coherently and which fail to provide credible reasons why things happen the way they did. So, your writing task is to persuade these readers to turn to the progressive media, which are out of sight for many, and to build your case to show why it will be worth your readers’ while. Remember: there are all kinds of sources that interpret current events differently than The New York Times or CNN, but many of those sources are useless, “full of sound and fury / Signifying nothing,” to borrow the description from Shakespeare (Macbeth 5.5.27-28). Some of these sources rant with rage; some spit sarcastic venom, but they do not offer rational solutions that will help people reclaim decency and democracy. We just recently observed how the mainstream media floodlighted the mobs attacking monuments while the living “masters of mankind” continued accumulating wealth undisturbed. By contrast, your paper promotes rational and constructive reasoning and reliable sources. It promotes solidarity of all un(der)represented, not divisive identity politics, which pit one minority group against another to marginalize the population further.Writing about the alternative news sources, you inevitably face the question: What should I do with the mainstream media; after all, alternative implies mainstream? Should I organize my essay in a comparison/contrast mode? The answer to the latter is no. Think about it this way: if you are telling someone how special that person is for you, you do not arrange your speech by focusing on how indifferent you are to someone else–that would sound odd, as if you still cannot get over your other relationship. Nor would you say it by using contrast as your supporting evidence: “You are such a caring person compared to my ex, who blah-blah-blah. . .” So support you claims about the independent media by what they do to benefit wage-earners (to whom you should refer as “citizens” or “the massive people” since readers will feel uncomfortable when identified as “working poor” and such–use your own instincts to decide which words won’t turn your readers off–people should not stereotype themselves: if I read these sources, I am some kind of gamma or delta. Instead, they should think about it this way: I am reading these sources because I value democracy and I want to experience democracy outside a TV screen too.) So, a solution to the question on top of this paragraph could be a very brief paragraph that offers a contrasting example from the mainstream media. For example, after a full paragraph that establishes the educating/ehlightening value of the independent sources, with plenty of specific supporting evidence, you may write: By contrast, Foxnews, in its Opinion section, propose to dissolve the union and to replace public schools with for-profit charter facilities, which will further deprive children of their right to comprehensive education as described by X and proved by recent data. (In each case you provide in-text citation to the referenced sources, without going into much detail. Readers will be able to access these sources and see for themselves. Finally, do not argue the issue of the strike directly, whether the teachers were right or not. This is not your writing task. The coverage of the strike is your illustrative evidence of the benefits of trusting the independent media. You cannot just write that they tell the truth; you must give a specific example in the appropriate context: they present the original text of the teachers’ demands that the city denied, leaving strike as the last resort to resolve the issues. These demands could accessed by following a hyperlink in the article. Among their demands was . . .These references to the strike require that you’ll need to provide some basic background facts about the event so that your readers will be able to follow your examples/evidence. My advice is to articulate your thesis and then develop your body paragraphs, using the necessary evidence from the coverage of the strike. Once the body of your argument is drafted, you can ask yourself what your readers need to know about the strike and the two types of the media (corporate/mainstream and progressive alternative/independent) to follow your writing comfortably. That will prompt you how much background information you must provide before stating your thesis. This means that you write the intro paragraph after the body of the essay is ready. After all, first comes the building, and then comes the porch, not the other way around. If you start your construction with a porch (just because you’re irrationally stubborn), you might end up trying to adjust the whole building to match your very special porch. It is a very frustrating thing to do, especially in summer.Attached is a sample layout for this paper, which will illustrate the tips that I shared with you on this page. Feel free to integrate these offerings; you will still be responsible for providing specific evidence and so forth.COLLEGE COMPOSITION WITH A.S.KALUZHSKI:A SAMPLE ESSAY LAYOUTINTRODUCTION(drafted last): summarizes the teachers strikeand some of its relevant aspects, leading readersto the essay’s purpose and central claim/thesisTHESIS: The comprehensive coverage of the 2012 Chicago Teachers Strike by the progressive alternative media makes a strong case for these outlets as the prime sources on the matters that affect both individual citizens and the democracy at large.TOPIC SENTENCE ONETOPIC SENTENCE TWOTOPIC SENTENCE THREETOPIC SENTENCE FOURA truly representative democracy is grounded in the informed citizenry, and the progressive media tell the people what theyneed to know when a crisis break out. The capital asset pricing model, or CAPM, is used to price an individual security or portfolio. The general idea behind CAPM is that investors should be compensated in two ways, for the time value of their money and risk incurred. The model helps investors calculate risks and what type of return they should expect on their investment. The time money value is represented by the risk-free rate, usually a 10-year government bond yield, and compensates the investors for placing money in an investment over a period of time. That is added to the other half of the formula which represents risk. It calculates the amount of compensation the investor needs for taking on additional risk. This is done by taking a Beta, which measures a stock’s volatility, and multiplies by its premium. The premium is calculated by subtracting the risk-free rate of return from the expected return of the market. For example, the expected return of a stock can be figured out in the following way using a model. If the risk-free rate is 3% the Beta or risk measure of the stock is 3 and the expected market return over the period is 11%. The stock is expected to return 27%. In short, if the expected return does not make the risk worth it, the investment should not be made.
Respond to the following questions:

You are the chief financial officer (CFO) of a multi-physician clinic. Do you see weaknesses or strengths in the capital asset pricing model (CAPM)? Explain your response and support it with examples. Include a consideration of the small market line (SML).
Your chief executive officer (CEO) asks you to decide between debt and equity financing. Explain which the best option is. Discuss the factors that influence your decision.

Theories of Corrections and its Influence on Policy
This essay discusses the early intervention theory when applied to criminal justice, how it has influenced correctional policies and the long term effects of its application to the correctional system in the United States.  Cullen and Jonson (2017) present seven concepts of penology, originally called philosophies of punishment, which the authors have tempered to the title of theories of corrections.  They state that the shift in terminology is to properly align these concepts with the intended goal, which sometimes punishment is not necessarily the only objective.  As the authors point out, punishment is only part of the correctional equation, with the concepts of rehabilitation and deterrence playing an important role in the development of  the policies of the criminal justice system.   The authors point out that these theories should be applied to policy when they can be backed with evidence based research.  However, they contend that often these policies are chosen not because of statistical facts, but due to political pressure from public opinion.
                                                                                          Early Intervention Theory
Cullen and Jonson (2017) presents the early intervention theory as more of a concept of prevention than that of corrections.  While this is true, this student feels that this theory is one which holds the most promise since it draws from multiple disciplines to address the problem of crime.  Wacquant (2001) presents a similar assertion when examining the hyper-incarceration of African Americans during the past several decades.  The author states, “…one must break out of the ‘crime-and-punishment’ paradigm to reckon the extra-penological function of the criminal justice system…” (p. 95).  Early Intervention Theories are identified by Cullen and Jonson (2017) as addressing the biopsychological, social, and economic dynamics of a community, identifying those factors which have negative influences on one’s development which can lead to future criminal activities.  While the authors do confide that this theory is more focused on prevention, this student believes that a proactive approach to any societal issue, be it education, sanitation, or criminal justice, is more efficient and cost effective than reacting to a problem.
Looking at the example given by Cullen and Jonson (2017), a child born to a substance dependent mother is at risk for being born with an addiction themselves, a condition which presents comorbidity for developmental delays, cognitive disabilities and behavioral disorders.  As the child matures and enters the educational system, these disabilities prevent mainstreaming in the learning process, requiring special education intervention which, dependent on district services, may lack the ability to help the student.  Faced with growing disciplinary issues in school, coupled with marginalization exacerbated by race, ethnicity, culture and economic status, the student eventually gravitates to similar negative supports, eventually leading to suspension and expulsion from school; a cycle which has been coined the “school to prison pipeline” (Sherman & Jacobs, 2011).   Cullen and Jonson (2017) identify the dangerous trend  as an avoidable trajectory toward criminal activity, one which can be prevented early on in an individual’s development.  While they point out this theory does not address how corrections should be organized, they state that early intervention programs in health care have proven effective when situational pregnancies might lead to children with crime-inducing deficits.
Long Term Effects on Correctional Systems
Cullen et al., (2011) asserts that research has shown incarceration, especially that with a concentration on punishment alone, does not help to deter crime.  Interestingly, the authors explain that the data supports long term exposure while incarceration only increases the offender’s propensity to recidivism due to negative influences from other inmates.  Their argument against incarceration highlights that many who support “getting tough on crime” might actually have the opposite intended effect, perpetuating the offender which in turn, makes society less safe. When looking at crime through a sociological lens, Wacquant (2001) asserts prisons are only part of a larger system of subjugation and is interchangeable with the ghetto as a continuum of racial and class oppression.  When comparing correctional theories, Cullen and Jonson (2017) point out that early interventions can be considered the opposite of rehabilitation, since the focus of the theory is not only before incarceration, but before the commission of a crime.  Since this approach focuses on preventing the crime by using evidence-based interventions, the authors feel that this theory will play a larger role in the criminal justice system in the future.
                                                                                                  Christian Worldview
The study of the Scriptures reveals that while God has given man free will, he is taught how to avoid the temptation of sin.  This is accomplished through the teachings of morals and values, beginning with the family unit, “Train a boy in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not swerve from it.”  (The New American Bible, 1970/2011, Proverbs 22:6).  Proverbs 11: 14 also states that when the family is unable to train the child, then it becomes the responsibility of the community to provide instruction and guidance, “For lack of guidance a people falls; security lies in many counselors.”  (NAB).  The Bible also tells society to, “learn to do good. Make justice your aim: redress the wronged, hear the orphan’s plea, defend the widow.”  (Isaiah 1:17).  Delivering a modern interpretation to scripture, Pope Francis, encapsulated the ideals of early intervention stating,  “Blessed are those who look into the eyes of the abandoned and marginalized, and show them their closeness.”  (Pentin, 2016, para 11).
                                                                                                         Conclusion
Correctional theories apply concepts which are utilized in the development of effective policy for the punishment and rehabilitation of society’s offenders.  However, evidence suggests that detention has the opposite intention of protecting society and with hyper-incarceration rates and the highest prison population in the industrialized world  (Cullen & Jonson, 2017), perhaps our current theories are flawed.  If the authors are correct in their prediction, an increased multidisciplinary approach to the prevention of crimes will be the preferred criminological in the future.  Just as crime prevention is a common facet of law enforcement functions, perhaps the concept of early intervention will be incorporated into correctional sciences for the coming decades.  The implications can be profound.  Identifying segments of the population who might be at risk for criminal behavior in the long run will require funding shifts from the reactionary institutions of police and corrections to the preventive programs of healthcare, education and social services.

Learning Objectives In this assignment you will:Communicate technical information to a non-technical audience.Develop an understanding of how to create communication for a specific audience by creating a document for executive-level clients (civic, mechanical engineering) or venture capitalists or financiers (biomedical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, and industrial engineering)., Consider the presentation format of your document relative to the audience you are presenting to Develop an understanding of the uses of probability and statistics in your field. Required Reading/ViewingExecutives by House, Layton, Livingston & Moseley from The Engineering Communication Manual. This brief chapter will provide an introduction to communicating with Executives, or as this chapter refers to them as “Authorizers.”Making Sense of Too Much Data (Links to an external site.) by David McCandless. Talks about how he thinks about data and representing data visually. While his skill with visualizing data is beyond my expectations for you this semester, (although I would be happy to see some interesting visuals), I hope he’s talking about how he thinks about them helps you think about how you approach using data visually in your work. White Paper Assignment Steps Description In this assignment, you will do research to identify the priorities of the audience you will be speaking to. You will use the research you completed to develop the student handout as the foundation for a brief white paper that will speak to major clients, investors. or venture capitalists. You may opt to do this at the level of your general field (the program in which you are studying) or specific field (i.e automotive design, cybersecurity, data visualization, highway design, medical devices, or many more). While this white paper will cover many of the same issues you addressed in the first document you will complete this document in a way that speaks to this different audience. This should include the types of issues or problems probability and statistics are used for and the way it is involved in the process of your work. You will develop a cohesive document for the purpose of introducing this new audience to the contribution this course will play in future professional lives. As part of this assignment, you will be expected to present this in a way that is visually appealing to an executive-level audience, tells a story that is important to them, and is grammatically correct. Deliverable: A white paper of 600 – 1,000 words. Because I am looking for this to be visually inviting this should be 3 – 5 pages. (Your reference list does NOT count in the word count or the number of pages. For this document the reference list must be in the document – executives would not want to have to look elsewhere.) Completing the AssignmentResearch You may have found when you shared your first assignment with your group that you needed to complete more research on the use of probability and statistics in your field. Additionally, you will likely want to know the issues that the people you are speaking to will need to have addressed. Think about and search locations for this information that are likely to have this type of information presented. If you are making claims about how probability and statistics are used and their importance you need to have a source to back it up. Additionally, review the information below on Data Literacy and Business. These articles contain data visualizations that you are required to include in your document, both in a visual representation and in your text presentation. You will revise the data presented and focus it to be appropriate to your purpose and audience. (You may use more of the visualized data than you are required to.) The Data Literacy Index: The $500m Enterprise Value Opportunity – Results Summary. This report from Qlik and the Data Literacy Project provides insight on the importance of data literacy in business. You will think about and develop a focused presentation of the Median CDL Score by Industry (page 5) as part of your white paper. You will need to read enough of the document to understand the scale into which the data falls, as it is not well identified on the graphic. The Human Impact of Data Literacy: A leader’s guide to democratizing data, boosting productivity and empowering the workforce. This report from Qlik and the Data Literacy Project will provide some insight on the importance of data analytics to business success. While this not necessarily the only application of statistics in your fields, it can be an important one for business leaders. I am providing one other document, that does not contain data, but may be useful in understanding the information in the documents above. The Top 4 ROI Areas for Data-Driven Transformation. This report from Qlik discusses 4 ways organizations can get return on investment in data. Writing Think through what you want to accomplish (address the assigned purpose) and how you will need to do it to reach and convince this audience. Organize your content, write, review, revise (make sure you are still on track with your purpose and audience). Proofread and run a grammar check then edit. Somewhere early in the writing process, you should start to think about visuals that may help you make your point and develop them in a way that is understandable to your audience. To help you think through the scope and structure of the content you need to develop to accomplish this look back to the reading on Executives. This chapter will provide insight into the scope, structure, purpose, and tone of the document. Your content will include 5 APA cited sources at a minimum. When creating engaging material having relevant graphics makes your document easier to look at, include at least two relevant images. Your images must be labeled and cited. APA in-text citation formatting (Links to an external site.)APA reference list formatting (Links to an external site.)This section provides a description of each element of a reference list item after which are examples of different types of sources reference list formats. Step 3: Develop a professional document This step may be done in parallel with or after the writing process. This document should be professional, have a clearly defined hierarchy, and feel inviting and easy to read (use white space, color, and graphic elements) Include a header and footer The header top left will have the white paper titleThe footer lower left will have your nameThe footer lower right will have the page number (this can be done with the tool insert/page number for the entire document at once.) You may opt to have a cover, but it is not required as it is usually only done for longer white papers. White Paper Examples and my comments on them. You may also go and search for white papers in your field. There is likely to be some difference in what is considered well done, particularly as it pertains to appearance based on the field you are in. For example, if you are likely to have government clients they are more likely to be conservative in terms of what you present whereas if you are developing a new computer application an investor is more likely to be looking for some creativity. Proofreading, revising, and editing. Professional documents must be readable, clear, well organized, and concise. They must also be free of errors. Two approaches will help you with this. First, read your work out loud to yourself after having stepped away from it for some time. This will help you catch wording errors or omissions and poorly constructed sentences. Second, use advanced grammar software to check for grammar, punctuation, or other writing errors. I recommend the base paid platform of Grammarly, however, there are others available as well. Plagiarism and inappropriate paraphrasing are not permitted on any work completed at USF and will have professional consequences after you leave USF. In this course, the first instance of either of these will result in a zero on the assignment AND completion of a required assignment on the definition, consequences, and avoidance of plagiarism and inappropriate paraphrasing. Any discovered second instance of plagiarism or inappropriate paraphrasing (even if caught at the same time as the first) will result in failure of the course. If you are unclear on what either of these is review the content on the hyperlinked plagiarism page. Assignment Submittal and Grading Assignment Grading. There are three areas of concern on the gradingYou have completed sufficient research to present the required material. You have written the document in a way that is appealing and understandable to your assigned audience, professional in tone, concise, and correct. Your document is well organized and visually appealing.Several other elements of your work if poorly done will result in points loss. (No points are awarded for these elements as you are expected to be able to accomplish these)Your document is incomplete Your document demonstrated that the proofreading, revision, and editing step was not completed. Create a 1-2-page resource that will describe databases that are relevant to EBP around a diagnosis you chose and could be used to help a new hire nurse better engage in EBP.Evidence-based practice (EBP) integrates the best evidence available to guide optimal nursing care, with a goal to enhance safety and quality. EBP is crucial to nursing practice because it incorporates the best evidence from current literature, along with the expertise of the practicing nurse. The concern for quality care that flows from EBP generates a desired outcome. Without these factors, a nurse cannot be an effective leader. It is important to lead not only from this position but from knowledge and expertise. To gain the knowledge, you require a good understanding of how to search for scholarly resources, as well as identify which databases and websites are credible for the purposes of implementing evidence-based changes in practice.
DEMONSTRATION OF PROFICIENCY
By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the course competencies through the following assessment scoring guide criteria:

Competency 1: Interpret findings from scholarly quantitative, qualitative, and outcomes research articles and studies.

Explain why the sources selected should provide the best evidence for the chosen diagnosis.

Competency 2: Analyze the relevance and potential effectiveness of evidence when making a decision.

Describe the best places to complete research and what types of resources one would want to access to find pertinent information for the diagnosis within the context of a specific health care setting.

Competency 4: Plan care based on the best available evidence.

Identify five sources of online information (medical journal databases, websites, hospital policy databases, et cetera) that could be used to locate evidence for a clinical diagnosis.

Competency 5: Apply professional, scholarly communication strategies to lead practice changes based on evidence.

Describe communication strategies to encourage nurses to research the diagnosis, as well as strategies to collaborate with the nurses to access resources.
Communicate using writing that is clear, logical, and professional with correct grammar and spelling using current APA style.

PROFESSIONAL CONTEXT
As a baccalaureate-prepared nurse, you will be responsible for providing patient-centered, competent care based on current evidence-based best practices. You will be required to do research, analysis, and dissemination of best evidence to stay abreast of these best practices. Understanding where to go to find credible sources and locate evidence, as well as which search terms to use, is the foundation of incorporation of best practices.
SCENARIO
You are supervising three nurses working on the medical-surgical floor of a local teaching hospital. This hospital is nationally recognized as a leader in education and has a computer lab with an online library where staff has access to medical research databases (that is, CINAHL, PubMed, Medline, and Cochrane library) and online sources of all hospital policies, procedures, and guidelines, and computers at nurse workstations that also have access to these resources. (For this scenario, use the Capella University Library to simulate the hospital’s online library.) You have given the nurses their patient assignments and you have all participated in shift report. A new nurse who just completed orientation and training a week ago approaches you and tells you that one of the assigned patients has a diagnosis he or she is very unfamiliar with. Knowing that patient-centered care based on best practices is imperative to positive patient outcomes, you want to assist this nurse to find research that can be utilized to provide the best care for this patient. Describe how you would communicate with this nurse to encourage him or her to research the diagnosis. Assume you will assist in the quest to locate evidence, then describe where you would go within the facility and what resources you would look for. These resources may include websites, journals, facility policies or guidelines, or any other sources of online information. You may choose the diagnosis for the patient in this scenario. Choose something you would find interesting to research or that applies to a clinical problem you would be interested in addressing. Create a list of at least five sources that could be used to find evidence, with the best source listed first, and explain why the sources you chose are best to find evidence for the diagnosis you chose and the clinical scenario. You are only evaluating the sources of evidence (database, website, policy database or website, et cetera). You are not actually completing a search and selecting evidence. Consider the following examples: a nursing journal in CINAHL may not be the best source of evidence for information on how to administer medications through a central-venous catheter, whereas a hospital policy database found on a website may not be the best source of information on caring for a patient with a rare chromosomal abnormality.
PREPARATION
To help ensure you are prepared to complete this assessment, review the following resources related to the Capella library. These resources will provide you an overview of the types of tools, resources, and guides available in the library. This may be useful in forming a better understanding of the library to apply to the hypothetical situation laid out in the scenario of this assessment.

BSN Program Library Research Guide.
Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing & Health Sciences.
Databases A-Z: Nursing & Health Sciences.
Get Critical Search Skills.

Remember, it is also appropriate to look toward databases and resources outside of the Capella library, such as organizational policies, professional organizations, and government health care resources. You are encouraged to complete the Evaluating the Credibility of Evidence activity. This activity offers an opportunity to practice evaluating the credibility of evidence. These skills will be necessary to complete Assessment 1 successfully and is for your own practice and self-assessment. Completing this activity is also a way to demonstrate course engagement.
INSTRUCTIONS
The purpose of this assessment is to understand where to find evidence that can be applied to clinical scenarios and to learn effective communication and collaboration with clinical staff during the process of evidence location. As a baccalaureate-prepared nurse, you will not only use research for self-improvement in your clinical role, but you will also serve as a mentor to supervised nursing staff. Therefore, you will need to be able to communicate and collaborate effectively to guide them toward resources to find research, as well as support them through the initial evidence location process. In doing so, nurses can gain access to evidence that can be analyzed and utilized to stay current on best practices. This allows them to provide safe, patient-centered care and improve patient outcomes. For this assessment:

Describe your role as a baccalaureate-prepared nurse supervising clinical staff nurses with regard to communication and collaboration in locating evidence for application to a nursing practice scenario.
Compile a list of five online databases or other online sources (that is, websites, journals, facility policies or guidelines, et cetera) that can be used to research evidence to apply to this scenario and describe to which of these you would direct a nurse colleague to search for evidence.
Describe where you might go in the clinical setting to complete this research and how you would access the desired, relevant research within research databases or other online sources.

Be sure to address the following in this assessment, which correspond to the grading criteria in the scoring guide. Please study the scoring guide carefully so that you will know what is needed for a distinguished score.

Describe communication strategies to encourage nurses to research the diagnosis, as well as strategies to collaborate with the nurses to access resources.
Describe the best places to complete research and what types of resources you would want to access to find pertinent information for the diagnosis within the context of a specific health care setting.
Identify five sources of online information (medical journal databases, websites, hospital policy databases, et cetera) that could be used to locate evidence for a clinical diagnosis.
Explain why the sources of online information selected should provide the best evidence for the chosen diagnosis.
Communicate using writing that is clear, logical, and professional with correct grammar and spelling using current APA style.

Note: While you are not selecting and evaluating specific evidence to help with the clinical diagnosis, you should still be citing the literature and best practices to support your description of your communication and collaboration approach. Additionally, it is appropriate to cite best practices related to EBP and evaluating databases to support your explanation as to why you selected the five sources of online information that you did.

An orthopedic group in Virginia has decided to conduct a survey of referral physicians. The results, which are posted on the website, indicate the level of satisfaction. The group has also posted comments that some of the physicians wrote on the surveys. What is this group doing in terms of attempts to recognize the customer contact process? Explain the integration of the strategy into a total marketing program for the orthopedic group.

first reply

The orthopedic group has conducted a survey of referral physicians. Once the results were received, the orthopedic group posted the results on their website indicating the level of satisfaction as well as written physician comments from the survey.

Relationship Marketing

By conducting surveys and posting the results and comments in their website, the orthopedic group has developed the foundation for relationship marketing. Relationship marketing is an organization’s attempt to develop a long-term, cost-effective link with a customer for the benefit of both the customer and the organization (Berkowitz, 2017, p. 274). Developing a strong foundation involves developing a strategy that shifts the organization’s thinking from the individual transaction to focusing on keeping and retaining customers maintaining their loyalty. Berkowitz (2017) explains that developing this strategy allows health care organizations to define the organization as the regular health care provider or ensuring they stay within the set of providers whom they are attributed to the accountable care organization (p. 274). Research shows that relationship marketing is effective in industries where relationships are more critical to customers when the exchange of goods and services is involved (Gummesson, 2017). Relationship marketing has become a large focus for the health care industry as well as patients. Berkowitz (2017) explains that developing this relationship marketing and shifting the market is critical to the health care industry as it creates a bond between the service provider and service user and develops a greater need to maintain and enhance relationships (p. 274).

Shifting Market Focus

As previously stated, marketing has begun to shift from focusing on the individual to focusing on keeping and retaining customers (Berkowitz, 2017, p. 274). By shifting the market, organizations have a better change of establishing a long-term relationship with the loyal customer, patient, and referral physician. When this long-term relationship is formed, the shift in focus from a transactional view to relationship orientation has occurred (Berkowitz, 2017, p. 276). The biggest notable change in shifting market focus is the goal within the organization. Therefore, rather that a strategy of continuing to increase share or track the number of new charts each month the provider becomes an option (Berkowitz, 2017, p. 276).

Creating Customer Bonds

Creating customer bonds is important in the ever-growing health care industry. Britt (2020) explains that customers expect companies to work hard to earn their trust, resolve their issues, listen to their feedback, and protect their data. Another goal of creating customer bonds is to tie the customer closer to the organization. Tying a customer closer to an organization usually occurs at four different levels. Those four levels are financial, social, customization, and structural (Berkowitz, 2017, p. 280).

Customer Relationship Management

Customer relationship management (CRM) is the core to an effective relationship marketing strategy and is defined as broadly and widely implemented strategy for managing interactions with customers which involves using technology to organize, automate, and synchronize business processes (Berkowitz, 2017, p. 281). Berkowitz (2017) further explains that using technology to organize, automate, and synchronize business processes means focusing on customer service, marketing, and sales activities (p. 281). There are many goals linked to CRM, however there is one main goal that organizations should make their primary focus. Berkowitz (2017) explains that the primary goal of CRM is to retain customers through the collection and sharing of information across the organization (p. 281). For CRM to be effective, four key factors must be addressed. Those four key factors are customers should be recognized as key assets to any organization; the profitability of customers varies as not all customers are equally valued or desirable; customers vary in their preferences, needs, and buying behaviors; and by better understanding customer drivers and profitability and organization can better tailor its service offerings to maximize the value to customers (Berkowitz, 2017, p. 281). Other literature suggests that there are other aspects to CRM. Migdadi (2020) explains that there is a need to introduce a unified framework where CRM does not stand alone by integrating knowledge management (KM) and innovation capabilities (IC). In this framework, KM and IC has been shown to positively effect CRM across organizations. KM focuses on knowledge acquisition; diffusion and application; knowledge from a customer; knowledge about customers; and knowledge for customers (Migdadi, 2020). IC focuses on product innovation, process innovation, marketing innovation, service innovation, and administration innovation (Migdadi, 2020). The three concepts together create a conceptual framework to make CRM more successful across organizations.

Biblical Integration

Customer service is a key factor in maintaining relationships in the health care industry. There are times when this seems impossible or even difficult, however as health care workers we should strive to make the best out of every situation. A lot of times this entails doing things we may not want to do or even dealing with patients (customers) that are difficult and never pleased. Patience becomes a virtue at this point as well as kindness and empathy. Colossians 3:23 states, “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men” (KJV, 2014).

The group is attempting to bring consumer awareness to the services they offer, evidently to bring about more referrals to the practice. There are several other possibilities that can be added to a total marketing program for this group.

Focusing on the use of the latest technologies like robotics would be a beneficial addition to the marketing program. Robotics has been used for decades in other industries such as car manufacturing but has just recently begun to make serious inroads in healthcare. In robotics, robots use partially or fully automatic physical and cognitive functions to perform various tasks, substituting for, augmenting or entirely replacing human performance. One newer way robotics is improving is in in prosthetic limbs for amputees. For upper limb amputations, prior to now there have been no prosthetics with the ability to come close to mimicking the fine motor skills of the human hand (Zhuang, K.Z. et al, 2019). Coders are getting closer to being able to allow for full articulation of each finger, better allowing the wearer to conform their grasp to the shape of an object and allow for finer dexterity (Zhuang et al, 2019). Robotics can also be used as assistive devices in surgery, decreasing the amount of downtime patients experience after surgery, utilizing smaller more aesthetically pleasing incisions, and decreasing the amount of time spent under anesthesia.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope” (English Standard Version, 2001, Jeremiah 29:11). These cutting-edge advances, though not realized to their full potential yet, truly show us how God has a plan to give everyone a future and a hope.

Advertising physician certificates both physically in the office and on the practice’s website to perform specialty care, like completion of a hand and wrist fellowship or spinal certification may also increase referrals for those types of procedures. If referring physicians are unaware these services are offered, they will not refer patients to this practice.

Increasing the practice’s social media presence is also a good addition to the marketing mix. “People increasingly look at social media applications as an important part of their daily life and more likely to move their interactions to the virtual platforms (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter)” (Alalwan et al, 2017). This gives the practice an opportunity to showcase patient testimonials, “before and afters”, relevant education materials about various common surgeries, and physician profiles. Additionally, social media offers two-way communication between prospective patients, referring physicians, and the practice. Engaging platforms are empirically more successful financially than those that are not (Alalwan et al, 2017). The social media pages can be linked to the main website and vice versa, increasing viewing traffic both ways.

Though the strategies outlined are not exhaustive, they will help to enhance the total marketing program for this orthopedic group.

The first discussion:
1. How will launching Fire TV sets likely influence the organizational purchasing and supply management (P/SM) organization for Amazon (See Exhibit 5.2)?
I believe that the launch of the new Amazon Fire TVs will cause Amazon to consider organizing in a centralized way. I say this because Amazon will be looking at having a competitive advantage (Monczka et al., 2020, para. 165) with the cost-friendly TV’s as well as having their own shipping service with Amazon Prime membership, this will allow consumers to receive the TV’s without having to leave their house, and in most cases allow them to receive the TV’s the next day which will make Amazon more efficient than their competitors. Amazon will also want to use a centralized structure because with multiple facilities throughout the world Amazon will want a standardized buying process at all of these locations which is a trait of the centralized process (Monczka et al., 2020, para. 165). However, Amazon will have to take into consideration current trends in the Smart TV industry and see which trends mesh with their business strategies, their management philosophies and what the interest is from customers with this technology (Monczka et al., 2020, p. 162). When it comes to their Strategies and objectives the purchasing manager at Amazon will most likely want to have hands on with their suppliers to make sure they can keep up with the expected demand of the TVs as well as having oversight on the cost of the units as Amazon is expected to sell these TVs as a lower price than a majority of their competitors. Amazon will also want to manage their global supply base with a centralized approach, especially with the number of facilities that they have worldwide. An organizational enabler that Amazon will likely want to use would be that of regional buying groups. With this they can ensure that all of their regional facilities have a stock of the TVs and reduce the risk of a stock out. With some of these tools being used by Amazon in a centralized structure it would help ensure that Amazon has a smooth transition into the television market.
2. Describe how Porter’s Five Forces (Exhibit 6.10) can be used to create a Strategy Portfolio Matrix for Category Management (Exhibit 6.12) that Amazon can use to create a competitive advantage in the market for television sets.
Porter’s Five Forces can be used to create a Portfolio Matrix for Category Management in order to gain a competitive advantage in the television market by researching their competitors and all of the five forces which are threat of new entrants, buyer bargaining power, pressure from substitutes, supplier bargaining power, and Market Internal Competition (Monczka et al., 2020, p. 222). By seeing what the competition is doing with Porter’s Five Forces, Amazon can use that information to develop the Portfolio Matrix and gain the upper hand on their competitors. By identifying the critical, bottleneck, routine and leverage categories on the Strategy Portfolio Matrix they can optimize items like who their strategic suppliers (critical), preferred suppliers are(leveraged), and bottleneck category (transactional supplier) (Monczka et al., 2020, pp. 223–225). By Identifying who/what lands in these categories, using Porter’s Five Forces to see what the competition in the market is, it will allow Amazon to spend less time in the routine category and more time in the higher risk and higher value potential categories, which will allow Amazon to gain an advantage remaining efficient and ahead of their competition when it comes to their suppliers in the short term and the long term.
3. Discuss how Amazon can manage “Supply Chain Transformation” (page 237) utilizing the stages of supply management strategy evolution (Exhibit 6.14).
Amazon can manage the supply chain transformation by recognizing milestones early in the processes in the strategy of supply chain evolution. Doing so will allow Amazon to recognize where they currently are in the stages of evolution and how they can advance to the next stage and operate at a higher level. Using the stages supplemental management strategy evolution will help better prepare Amazon to make the jump from Basic Beginnings all the way to Fully Integrated Supply Chains at a pace that will allow Amazon to operate at a high level within their current phase and take the next step to eventually reach the fully integrated supply chain step while also maintaining the reputation as an industry standard.
4. Please provide an insightful question about category strategy development.
For brand new that may be difficult to gauge requirements and research for to evaluate demand and markets for this product (i.e., smartphones at their conception), do you develop strategies that are more cautious than strategies that are more optimistic when it comes to demand and capabilities of the supply chain/suppliers?
The second one:

How will launching Fire TV sets likely influence the organizational purchasing and supply management (P/SM) organization for Amazon (See Exhibit 5.2)?

Launching the fire TV sets in the marketplace will increase customer demand. Innovation is the new way to succeed in the market and if Amazon launches their new TV set, consumers will want to try it out and it will have a huge impact on their sales. The organization’s purchasing will increase if customers are really interested in the product and are eager to buy it. The sales volume will increase at a high rate and company profitability too. This will increase workload for Amazon’s P/SM, they will need to achieve sales target by delivering the new TVs on time, their supply chain operations will increase.

Describe how Porter’s Five Forces (Exhibit 6.10) can be used to create a Strategy Portfolio Matrix for Category Management (Exhibit 6.12) that Amazon can use to create a competitive advantage in the market for television sets.

Amazon can have a competitive advantage by:

Influencing the buying power of suppliers – the company can offer the Television set at a lower cost as compared to others in the market, by influencing the supply chain in the source end.
With strong branding and competitive advantage, amazon can prevent new companies from entering the market by providing cost and price advantage to the customers can prevent the entry of new companies into the market.
Amazon can further increase its sales by matching the price with the price expectation of the buyers.
Amazon can have stock of different kinds and a variety of Television sets, in case of the consumer trying to move from LED to LCD tv, both the options are available with Amazon only. In this way, Amazon can have the category portfolio ready to meet all kinds of demand and customer requirements.

Discuss how Amazon can manage “Supply Chain Transformation” (page 237) utilizing the stages of supply management strategy evolution (Exhibit 6.14).

The process of supply chain transformation mainly involves aligning the supply chain to optimum efficiency with your overall company objectives. There are fewer material flows than changes in organizational responsibility, and as strategic strategy is needed step-by-step.
In the beginning stage, Amazon should focus on Total quality management of the TV set, they should make sure its up to par so competitors cannot have an advantage, 2nd stage for Amazon will be finding the right sourcing where they can sell volumes and a discounted rate. In the limited integration phase, Amazon can involve their suppliers and supplier can assist in the TQM process also. Lastly, fully integrated supply chain, this phase is a difficult one for most organizations, so Amazon has to be very strategic when implementing this phase. Amazon is a widely known company so it will make sense for them to develop their global supplier capabilities to insource core activities which will be beneficial.
4. How can the challenges of the poorly applied supply chain management strategy be solved especially in times where companies are frantically trying to have a competitive advantage in their sector?Â
