In a persuasive essay that is unified, coherent, and fully supported by research, defend or refute ONE of the statements below. Your response must reach a minimum length of1500 words, not including the Works Cited page. 

Defend or Refute: Vaccinations are a safe and effective way to end the Covid-19 pandemic.
Defend or Refute: El Camino made the right call in keeping most of its classes online for the fall ’21 semester. 
Defend or Refute: The recent verdict in the George Floyd murder case indicates that bigotry and violence directed at people of color is finally on the decline.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
The ECC English Department requires a 4-5 page essay (not including the Works Cited page, which doesn’t count toward the length requirement). In the essay, do the following:
1. Express a critical viewpoint and develop an original thesis-driven argument. This argumentative essay will be well organized, demonstrate an ability to support a claim using analysis and elements of argumentation, and integrate academically acceptable sources
2. Use at least three sources; avoid over-relying on one source for most of the information; cite multiple sources and synthesize the information found in them.
3. Address issues of bias, credibility, and relevance in the sources you use. Better yet, avoid using biased sources or sources that lack credibility or relevance.
4. Demonstrate, by using at least one of these approaches, an understanding of analytical methods and structural concepts such as inductive and deductive reasoning, and/or cause and effect, and/or ethos, logos, and pathos, and/or the recognition of fallacies in language and thought. (Note: Don’t overthink this English Department requirement; you do NOT have to use all of these methods, and you do NOT have to mention any of them or even use them consciously. If you simply conduct a good argument, you’ll be using a few of them.) 
5. Acknowledge and directly address counterarguments, dealing with them by respectful, effective use of concession and/or refutation.

The topic for your final paper should be an aspect of leadership that relates to your organization or some other organization of your choosing. Negligence IRAC ISSSUE & RULE DiscussionCase:WOD Chemical Company operates a plant on the Russian River, outside of Geyserville, CA. The plant produces a sulfur compound used on wine grapes. This plant has been in operation for about 25 years and has passed all California State health and safety operation inspections.. On July 5th, a fire (caused by overheating machinery using a self-made insulating devise) in the plant caused an explosion of one of its sulfur tanks resulting in massive dumping of sulfur into the nearby Russian River. In August local wine producers noticed their wine grape vines were suffering, and grapes were shriveling and dying. Local River analysis showed abnormally high levels of sulfur content and it was speculated that the sulfur either came directly from the fire based explosion, or there was some other leak at WOD. (Some claim the plant has been dumping Sulfur waste into the river for years although the river is regularly inspected by State Agencies) The California Health Department and other government agencies in response to the recent sulfur levels, posted notices along all public access points warning the public of these sulfur levels and potential health risks from direct consumption of the water. Trifork Winery has filed suit against WOD for monetary damages. In writing an issue statement the question should identify the general legal theory linked to a fact which gives rise to the claim. You must find one article about racism and discuss the difference between approaching racism as a systemic/structural issue or an issue of individual opinions and feelings. The article can be from any news source–I do not care where on the internet you find it. But it must contain some suggestion that something racist is happening. This assignment is pretty specific. You *MUST* show me you understand the difference between systemic (structural) and individual racism. In systemic racism, racism is a property of societies and the way they are structured. In individual racism, racism is a property of individual attitudes and opinions. *YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO AGREE WITH EITHER POSITION.* This is not about that. This is about demonstrating that you understand the difference. I honestly don’t care all that much which side you come down on.
