One of the central conflicts in this story revolves around the relationship between Sarty and his father. Sarty’s father has a habit of burning down barns belonging to his landlords. He wants Sarty to lie for him in court. Sarty knows that what his father is asking him to do is wrong, but he feels he must be loyal to his family even though this goes against his own values.
Have you ever been in a situation like this where you had to choose between betraying someone you cared about and being true to yourself? What did you choose? Why?

For this essay, you will begin by summarizing the story making sure you discuss the choice that Sarty made and why he made this choice.
In the second part of the essay, you will discuss the time when you had to make such a choice drawing parallels between your conflict and Sarty’s conflict.

Sonny’s Blues
“Sonny’s Blues” is a story that focuses on human suffering, something we can all relate to in some way. Sonny turns to drugs in high school because he feels trapped in Harlem, in school, and by what he is expected to do and what he wants to do.  He is like many high school students who are trying to find their way in the world.  They are not quite an adult, but they are no longer a kid.  
Sonny, in many ways, is like a teenager today.  He has to listen to his teachers and his parents but he also has his own ideas, view of the world, and passions that the adults don’t understand.  He wants to express himself but feels that nobody is taking him seriously.  His brother doesn’t relate to his desire to play music or join the military.  Sonny feels that he is trapped and makes some really bad decisions in trying to deal with his own suffering.   On one level, the story is about being young and misunderstood.On another level, it is about the decisions that we make and how these decisions can affect us for a longtime.

If you choose this prompt, the first part of your essay will summarize the story and will focus on Sonny and his relationship with his brother and his family.  You will summarize the events that led up to Sonny’s arrest and what happened after Sonny got out of jail.  Talk about the narrator’s revelation at the end of the story after he goes to the bar and listens to Sonny play the piano.
In the second part of this essay, you will respond to the themes of growing up and the importance of the decisions that we make.  Discuss a time in your life when you were “young and misunderstood”and made a decision (good or bad) that had an impact on your future.

This ratio is also referred to as return on investment(ROI). This ratio is a tool that measures how effective a business is in generating profits. The ROA is a common ratio for investors to quickly and efficiently determine how profitable a business is. This is a pretty important tool for a company. If a company can not efficiently produces profits, investors will look to invest in another company that can more easily produce profits. Since this tool is easy to use and very straight forward to interpret, it is used extensively in stock investment and can be used to determine if a company should expand or not. For investors that are less more reluctant to take risk will look at companies with a lower ROA ratio. Investors that are willing to take more risks will look for higher ratios. For this discussion, I chose current ratio. Our textbook defines current ratio as measuring liquidity by comparing a firm’s current assets to its current liabilities. This means being able to see at the moment what available assets a company has compared to its current obligations. This tells senior management and investors if the company can meet its short-term obligations. Basically, can a company pay its bills. This is important because for a company to make money in the future, it needs to be able to pay its current bills. In this scenario, having more liquid current assets is better than having more current liabilities because it means the company has more cash readily available to pay all its bills and is more stable.These ratios have been used by students.

Student Sample: Humanities is greatly valued in the medical profession. Our lesson this week defined humanities as the study of human culture. Studying humanities in the health care profession can greatly improve how a medical professional understands and communicates with their patients for many reasons. The lesson has also taught me that by studying humanities, future health care professionals can learn how to critically think and reflect on the situations they are put in. Literature about humanities also helps medical professionals learn about other people’s perspectives one certain situations. Not only does humanities teach them about others perspectives but it also opens room for discussion regarding difficult ethical or legal issues (Singh, 2020). Doctor Satendra Singh states that implementing humanities into the medical profession will help with decision making, collaboration, improve learning, and can even help professionals learn ways to cope with stressors and burnout (Singh, 2020). 
Art, literature, music, etc, from other periods of time can enhance my career by making me take a step back and really analyzing a situation. Going through chapter 1 in our book this week really made me realize that with all of the art that was talked about from the past. Of course I have seen these paintings, but I never really put too much thought into them or what they mean. It was actually really interesting to look at the deeper behind the pieces of artwork. This will help me not only in my personal life but also in my nursing career by reflecting every situation I am in. By reflecting the situations I am put in I will be able to see different perspectives and opinions. This will be vital when working with patients and developing treatment plans. Reflection should be used in my everyday personal life in the present to avoid unnecessary conflict. 
Music is the most important aspect of humanities in my personal life. I do not go a day without listening to music. I use music to deal with all of my emotions because I believe there is a song for everything. I have all types of music to listen to for however I may be feeling, it really helps put my mind at ease. Music is also something my friends and I bond over which I truly value. I love listening to songs that they like that I may have never heard before. One song that is extremely meaningful to me is 1-800-273-8255 by Logic. Honestly, I do not even like the artist Logic, but this song discusses suicidal thoughts and how he overcame them and it really hits home for me. I lost my friend Brandon by suicide in 2018. This song really sent a message to millions of people about the battle with depression and everything that comes along with it. I admire Logic for his bravery to share this story with everybody. Even though my friend did not overcome his battle, this song still brings him to my mind every time I hear it, and for that I am forever grateful. 
Art would have to be the most important aspect to me for my future career. I would say this because everyone interprets arts differently. My mom and I could look at the same painting and feel very different emotions from it based on past experiences or emotions. I think accepting different points of view is vital for nursing. As a nurse I want to be respectful of my patients wishes and I want to be able to understand where they are coming from.

A thought from your own culture and thought from an indigenous culture:

Culture is the term of social behaviors and norms that are found within human societies, each culture will have different types of norms and behaviors in which will be developed over time. As the Tiwi culture is different on many different levels compared to my very own culture, I have many thoughts in mind. One thought that really stuck out from the indigenous culture was their beliefs on marriage. Traditional Tiwi culture mandates that all women must be married (Peters-Golden, H.P. (2012). Now in my culture, it is not required for women to get married, although if you are unmarried in my culture, you may be asked why you are not married yet it is not looked at as a necessity. In the past this the culture required every female to be always married, there was no concept of an unmarried female, ever (Peter-Golden, H. P. (2012). As someone who comes from a a culture that does not require me to be married I find that this belief that the Tiwi live-by would be a challenge.

POST 2
As directed this week, I did take a moment to reflect on one of my culture’s beliefs/ rituals. As a Latina in my family, Catholic religion is the base and with that every year is Lent. For 46 days this practice is recognized and during this time no meat is consumed on Ash Wednesday or Fridays. Fasting is also practiced on these days as well, though for some this is not followed. When considering my cultures practice of Lent there are many contrasts to the Vegetarian Festival in Thailand. While their practice may be 9 days, there are rituals that here in this country would not be deemed holy, but most likely considered self-mutilating practices.
The challenge when looking at the two is a basic understanding, just as Lent may be a foreign concept to them and not seem reasonable, the same can be said when initially observing their Festival. Between our two countries are differences in what our culture deems acceptable practices which would limit theirs if they were to try to display it here. This day and age we have what has been labeled as “cancel culture” which would no doubt be in full swing should the display of piercing one’s cheek with a foreign object be displayed. In addition to not being willing to openly observe without aversion is the limits of our understanding of the fluidity of a belief. Taoism is not hard to understand, for a good read on the basics there is ‘The Tao of Pooh’ by Benjamin Hoff, through his words we can understand that Taoism is simply to be and not to over think, which is again where there would be a struggle. Every culture has their methods of purification through devotion, for us here in America the issue is whether or not we can turn off our criticism and turn on appreciation instead.

Handling and processing evidence is an integral component of crime scene management because it lays the foundation for everything the court must consider when weighing the admissibility of evidence. For the most part, the courts prefer testing being carried out in a laboratory setting. However, there are exceptions, such as times when an initial examination also yields valuable information. In this assignment, you will differentiate between testing that might be done on-scene versus in the laboratory, identify testing that might be subject to preliminary testing, as well as compare the different results yielded by preliminary field versus laboratory testing.
