The assignment is to write a 7-10 page argumentative paper about “The Stolen Party” by Liliana Heker. I will attach the three page argumentative paper I wrote about this short story, received an 85. I want the research paper to focus on the harsh realities of social class. In addition to this he suggested I also compare it to “The Lesson” by Toni Cade. My teacher gave me this tip: Lilliana Hecker might be writing about the harsh realities of social class. If you think she is, it’s your job to show that she is and prove it. In this case, you would be writing about setting. Every story is set somewhere, sometime, and that “somewhere” is not only a place but a set of social/historical conditions. “The Stolen Party” is apparently set in Argentina in the second half of the 20th century. The textbook credit for the story is Other Fires: Short Fiction by Latin American Women, edited and translated by Alberto Aanguel, 1985. So, it’s not about immigration to the USA–it’s about social class in Argentina. A research paper could inform us about the particularities of class in Argentina (interesting country, very different from, say, Bolivia) but for your essay, no research, so you’d have to stick to social class in general. Use what I’ve written and incorporate it into the argumentative research essay.

Consider the following scenario:Your boss comes to you and informs you that the organization is going to move to working from home due to the emergency situation. All of your employees will be working from home, effective tomorrow. He further states that all of your staff must use their own computers and equipment, including personal phones for communications.You are concerned as your staff work with a tremendous amount of PII (personal identifying information) that is sensitive and contains financial information. Most staff do yet not have a two-factor authorization to get into the organization’s system, so employees will have to save files to a portable device or cloud to access from home. There is so much going on in the world right now: the rise of hate crimes, COVID 19, recent mass shootings, questions surrounding student loans and the border situation, a brand new presidential administration. I know that some of these issues affect your lives and communities as well, and I want to give you the opportunity to write about something that you are passionate about. We will talk more about Essay 3 later on, but here, I want you to do a very simple brainstorm. 

How would you define “social justice”? (Don’t look it up; just tell me what comes to mind. No wrong answers here!)
Is there anything related to social justice that you have seen on the news or social media that you have found concerning or that you found yourself invested in? What do you know about the issue? What do you want to know? Is it something that affects your life/community?
What social or economic problems do you see within your community?
What do you think we (as a country) can do to solve these problems?
